Job Description

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) seeks an accomplished and forward-thinking physician-leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Neuromuscular Medicine within the Department of Neurology. Reporting directly to the Chair of Neurology, the Division Chief will provide strategic, clinical, research, and administrative leadership to advance a nationally recognized neuromuscular program.

This is an opportunity to shape and grow a multidisciplinary program that integrates cutting-edge research, exceptional clinical care, and innovative education within a leading academic medical center affiliated with Harvard Medical School.

Appointment as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor at the Harvard Medical School will be commensurate with experience, training, and achievements in addition to teaching activities.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Excellence

  • Oversee and enhance delivery of high-quality, patient-centered neuromuscular care across inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Expand clinical programs in areas such as ALS, muscular dystrophies, peripheral neuropathies, myasthenia gravis, and EMG services
  • Promote best practices, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives

Research & Academic Development

  • Lead and grow a robust neuromuscular research portfolio, including clinical trials, translational research, and collaborative initiatives
  • Recruit, mentor, and support faculty in research productivity and academic advancement
  • Foster partnerships across BIDMC, Harvard-affiliated institutions, and industry collaborators

Administrative & Strategic Leadership

  • Provide operational oversight of the division, including budgeting, staffing, and program development
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision aligned with departmental and institutional priorities
  • Collaborate closely with departmental leadership and hospital administration

Education & Mentorship

  • Support education of medical students, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals
  • Strengthen and expand neuromuscular fellowship programs
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for faculty and trainees

Collaboration & Program Growth

  • Build strong interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments (e.g., rehabilitation, pulmonology, genetics, pathology)
  • Identify opportunities to expand clinical and research programs
  • Engage in regional and national neuromuscular networks and initiatives

Qualifications

  • MD or MD/PhD with board certification in Neurology and subspecialty training in Neuromuscular Medicine
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Massachusetts
  • Established record of clinical excellence and academic achievement
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic medical center or comparable environment
  • Strong track record in research, including peer-reviewed funding and publications
  • Proven administrative and organizational skills
  • Commitment to collaboration, mentorship, and program development

Pay Range:

$210,000 - $445,000

The base pay range reflects what Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (HMFP) reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role at the time of posting and may be modified from time to time. Actual compensation within this range may be determined based on several factors, including academic appointment, work experience, specialty training, geography of work location, anticipated productivity, FTE basis, and role expectations. In addition to base compensation, this role may be eligible for performance-based incentives, which may include bonuses for productivity and quality HMFP also offers a comprehensive and generous employee benefits program to eligible employees, including health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, as well as retirement plan(s) with employer contributions.
