Angott Search Group is partnering with a Michigan Bank in the search for a Chief Credit Officer (CCO).

This executive will provide independent oversight of the Bank’s credit risk management function, ensuring sound underwriting, strong portfolio quality, effective Special Assets management, and compliance with regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and administer Board-approved credit policies, underwriting standards, and risk management practices.
• Provide independent credit judgment across lending activities and serve as a voting member of the Senior Loan Committee.
• Oversee credit analysis, underwriting, loan approval processes, documentation, risk grading, and exception tracking.
• Monitor portfolio quality, concentrations, emerging risks, and stress testing results.
• Lead external loan reviews and provide meaningful credit and asset quality reporting to senior management and the Board.
• Serve as the primary management contact for FDIC examinations and credit-related regulatory matters.
• Lead the Bank’s Special Assets function, including criticized/classified loans, workouts, restructurings, and resolution strategies.
• Oversee foreclosure, bankruptcy, repossession, collateral liquidation, charge-offs, and recovery activities.
• Manage relationships with outside legal counsel, appraisers, environmental consultants, and other Special Assets vendors.
• Oversee environmental risk associated with commercial real estate and other collateral, including due diligence, valuation considerations, and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure workout and resolution strategies are well documented, legally sound, and aligned with regulatory expectations.
• Partner with Credit Administration, Accounting, Legal, and senior leadership on portfolio risk, losses, recoveries, and ACL/CECL considerations.

Qualifications:

• Significant progressive experience in commercial credit, credit administration, and bank risk management.
• Senior-level leadership experience within a community or regional banking environment.
• Strong knowledge of credit policy, underwriting, portfolio management, Special Assets, and problem loan resolution.
• Experience with FDIC examinations, regulatory requirements, and safety-and-soundness standards.
• Strong understanding of commercial real estate credit, collateral valuation, environmental risk, and related legal considerations.
• Experience managing workouts, restructurings, bankruptcies, foreclosures, and recoveries.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to provide independent credit judgment while partnering effectively with lending and executive leadership.
