The University of Chicago's Department of Surgery, Section of Cardiac Surgery, is searching for a full-time faculty member at any rank, who will serve as Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery for Endeavor Health and lead the Endeavor Health Cardiovascular Institute (CVI). The appointee will lead the clinical, academic, and strategic growth of a high-performing surgical division across six Endeavor Health hospitals—Glenbrook Hospital (primary CVI site), Skokie Hospital, Evanston Hospital, Swedish Hospital, Highland Park Hospital, and Northwest Community Hospital. The Chief will oversee surgical quality, program development, and collaborative integration with structural heart, advanced heart failure, electrophysiology, and imaging teams across the system and is responsible for creating a unified surgical program that addresses the needs of all constituent hospitals. The appointee’s own clinical responsibilities will include performing high-complexity cases (e.g., multi-valve, re-operations, valve/CABG, aortic surgery) as well as providing surgical support for structural heart (e.g., TAVR, mitral clip), electrophysiology (e.g., lead extraction), and advanced heart failure.
Other duties include teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students, and scholarly activity.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a roadmap for a highly-ranked, high-performing cardiovascular surgery program and serve as the lead surgical voice in maintaining a strong working relationship between the University of Chicago and Endeavor Health.
The key responsibilities for this leadership opportunity include:
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent; 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois; 3) be BC/BE by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (or equivalent); 4) have completed an ACGME accredited fellowship and/or equivalent training in cardiovascular / thoracic (CVT) surgery; and 5) have a track record of building or significantly expanding a service line.
Preferred qualifications include: 1) accredited fellowship training with a minimum of 8-10 years post-fellowship clinical experience; 2) demonstrable leadership in program building and recognition regionally or nationally for surgical expertise; 3) familiarity with, or prior leadership in, STS 3-star programs and with experience with ECMO, short-term mechanical support (e.g., Impella), and/or LVAD care; and 4) clinical leadership experience in a multi-hospital system and/or experience navigating complex health systems.
