About the Role:

The Chief Actuary is a senior leadership role responsible for providing independent actuarial oversight across reserving, pricing, reinsurance, capital management and financial planning for a multi-line insurance group. Reporting to executive management, the role supports strategic decision-making through robust technical analysis and commercial insight.The position oversees IFRS 17, reserve adequacy, reinsurance optimisation, profitability analysis, internal capital models and actuarial governance across all subsidiaries. The successful candidate will work closely with the CFO, Risk Management and local actuarial teams to strengthen financial performance, ensure regulatory compliance and drive consistent actuarial standards across the Group.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Actuarial Reserving & Liability Valuation

• Lead the Group's reserving process, ensuring technical provisions are appropriate, robust and compliant with regulatory and accounting requirements.
• Review claim development patterns, loss ratios and major loss movements on both a gross and net basis.
• Challenge methodologies, assumptions and outputs prepared by internal and external actuaries.

2. Reinsurance Strategy & Optimisation

• Evaluate the effectiveness and adequacy of treaty and facultative reinsurance arrangements across all business lines.
• Support the design and optimisation of reinsurance programmes to improve capital efficiency and earnings stability.
• Assess reinsurance pricing, credit risk exposure and catastrophe protection levels.

3. Capital Management & Risk Modelling

• Oversee solvency assessments, internal capital models and stress testing to support prudent capital management.
• Contribute to ORSA, scenario analysis and sensitivity testing across the Group.
• Provide actuarial input into strategic decisions relating to capital allocation and business expansion.

4. Pricing & Product Governance

• Review pricing adequacy for life, health and general insurance portfolios.
• Support the development of pricing models for large and complex accounts.
• Ensure technical assumptions and product structures are aligned with profitability and risk appetite objectives.

5. Financial Planning & IFRS 17

• Lead actuarial contributions to IFRS 17 reporting, embedded value analysis and long-term financial projections.
• Perform cash flow testing and support investment and asset-liability management decisions.
• Develop management dashboards and actuarial insights for executive and Board reporting.

6. Profitability Analysis & Technical Performance

• Analyse claims, commissions, expenses and persistency trends to identify drivers of performance.
• Conduct actual-versus-expected studies to assess underwriting and pricing effectiveness.
• Recommend actions to improve technical margins and sustainable profitability.

7. Group Actuarial Governance & Leadership

• Establish consistent actuarial methodologies, standards and controls across all subsidiaries.
• Lead and develop local actuarial teams through peer reviews, technical guidance and training.
• Serve as a trusted adviser to senior management, providing clear and commercially focused actuarial recommendations.

Education and Qualifications:

• Postgraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related quantitative field.
• Associate for recognised actuarial body (or equivalent professional qualification).
• 6–8+ years of actuarial experience, primarily within life and health insurance.
• Strong expertise in reserving, pricing, capital modelling, reinsurance and IFRS 17.
• Proficiency in leading actuarial software and advanced analytical tools.
• Excellent communication, planning and leadership capabilities.
