As a Shift Chemistry Technician at Sizewell B Power Station, you’ll play an important role in supporting nuclear safety, industrial safety, and plant health. Working across laboratory and plant operations, you’ll help maintain the highest standards of chemistry control while developing your expertise in a highly regulated and technically rewarding environment. As part of EDF, you’ll also support the transition towards An Electric Britain

This is a full-time on-site role based at #SizewellB Power Station. You’ll work as part of a shift team, supporting routine operations, outages, emergency arrangements, and dry storage campaigns while collaborating with a skilled and supportive team.

Working arrangements include a days-only shift pattern operating Monday to Sunday, with one in every three weekends worked.

You’ll work with laboratory instrumentation and analytical techniques including ion chromatography and gas chromatography while supporting operational chemistry across the station.

You’ll build specialist expertise across laboratory operations, chemistry instrumentation and plant investigations while helping maintain the safe and reliable performance of one of the UK’s most important nuclear power stations.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Sampling and monitoring chemistry across nuclear, conventional and water treatment plant systems
  • Carrying out laboratory analysis using wet chemistry and instrumental analytical techniques
  • Maintaining, calibrating and repairing laboratory and plant instrumentation
  • Investigating plant issues and preparing documentation to support the site chemistry programme
  • Providing technical advice and supporting outages, emergency arrangements and dry storage campaigns

Who You Are

We’re looking for a Shift Chemistry Technician who enjoys working in a technical environment, values high standards, and can contribute effectively as part of a shift team. Are you experienced in…?

  • Appreciation of PWR Primary, Secondary and Auxiliary system chemistry
  • Radiological safety principles and their practical application
  • Chemical safety practices, including COSHH compliance
  • Laboratory analytical techniques such as ion chromatography and gas chromatography
  • Quality control and quality assurance practices within a laboratory environment
  • As a minimum, you will be educated to GCSE/National Qualification standards (or equivalent),
  • A ONC/A level/HNC or equivalent in chemistry or a related science will also have an advantage.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

We are offering a starting salary of between £36,497 and £55,574, with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. The starting salary for the appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.
