Job Summary:

The Chemistry Technician is responsible for supporting laboratory operations through sample preparation, instrument operation, and basic analytical testing. This role includes assisting with experimental setup, ensuring proper calibration and maintenance of equipment, and accurately recording and reviewing data in compliance with established quality standards.

The Chemistry Technician must be familiar with project requirements, SOPs, and applicable regulatory guidelines (e.g., GLP, ISO 17025). Responsibilities include identifying and reporting out-of-specification or out-of-control results, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring data integrity.

Technicians may be cross-trained in multiple functions, including sample preparation and generation, and are expected to collaborate effectively with team members. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment is essential.

The Chemistry Technician is responsible for adhering to all health and safety requirements, including proper use of PPE, and must report any conditions that could impact personal safety or study integrity. All work must be performed in compliance with applicable quality systems and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the setup and execution of routine laboratory experiments, tests, and analyses.
• Prepare and process samples according to SOPs while maintaining compliance with GLP and ISO 17025 standards.
• Operate, calibrate, and perform basic troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Perform routine checks such as balance verification and equipment performance monitoring.
• Conduct basic analytical testing (e.g., pH, carbon monoxide, NOx, or other assigned parameters).
• Handle chemicals and reagents safely in accordance with WHMIS and laboratory safety protocols.
• Accurately record, review, and manage data using LIMS and standard software tools (e.g., Microsoft Office).
• Maintain proper documentation, including raw data, logs, and quality records.
• Identify and report deviations, out-of-specification (OOS), or out-of-control results.
• Support quality control activities and adhere to laboratory quality programs.
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and general upkeep of the laboratory.
• Perform routine maintenance and assist with troubleshooting of equipment.
• Participate in daily safety checks and follow all health and safety procedures, including PPE requirements.
• Collaborate with team members and support cross-functional activities as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

• Diploma or degree in Chemistry or a related scientific field preferred, or equivalent technical training/experience.
• Additional training on laboratory or industrial equipment is an asset.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

• 1–2 years of relevant laboratory or technical experience preferred.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude or experience with laboratory instrumentation is an asset.
• Equivalent experience may be considered.

The compensation details provided below reflect the expected pay range for this role, based on the selected compensation structure and applicable guidelines. Actual pay within this range may vary depending on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and geographic location. Additional components of total rewards—such as bonuses, benefits, or incentives—may also apply where applicable.
