and Responsibilities:
The Chemist Specialist position, 37010124, is in the Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration’s Chemistry Program, LC Group, in Tallahassee. The duties of incumbent involve analyzing environmental samples for pesticides, chemical tracers, cyanotoxins, PFAS, VOCs, and other related compounds or contaminants of interest to agency programs. This position is critical to satisfying ongoing demands for analyses necessary to support water quality impairment decisions and providing support for other customers, both within and outside the Department of Environmental Protection.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of Chemistry principles and techniques.
2. Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques of chemical research, analysis, or testing.
3. Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and equipment used in laboratory testing and analysis.
4. Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
5. Skill in the use of scientific laboratory equipment.
6. Ability to collect, record and analyze scientific data relating to chemistry.
7. Ability to conduct chemical research, tests and analyses using scientific methods and techniques.
8. Ability to perform quantitative analysis of scientific data.
9. Ability to determine work priorities, coordinates work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments
10. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
12. Ability to work effectively as a team member.
13. Ability to keep accurate research records.
