Chemist – Machine-Readable Features Laboratory


The Chemist is a technical contributor within the Machine Readable Features Laboratory, supporting the research, development, formulation, characterization, and validation of machine-readable features used for authentication and traceability applications.The role covers a broad portfolio of security technologies, including functional materials, pigments, inks, and associated measurement methods (optical, physical, chemical, and functional), and combines hands on laboratory work, ink formulation, and experimental characterization in close collaboration within the whole department.

This position is well suited for an early career chemist seeking to build strong technical depth, autonomy, and industrial expertise, with clear progression toward senior role.

ROLE:

  • Contribute to the research, development and optimization of security features, including materials, pigments, and ink systems for machine readable and authentication applications.
  • Perform ink formulation work, including dispersion, stability optimization, and performance evaluation on various substrates.
  • Support the integration of functional security materials into different ink platforms and printing processes.
  • Design and execute laboratory experiments to evaluate feature performance, robustness, and reproducibility.
  • Perform measurements and characterization using a wide range of laboratory equipment (e.g. optical, physical, chemical, functional, or instrumental techniques, not limited to IR/optics).
  • Participate in the validation of new materials, methods, and processes, contributing to industrial readiness.
  • Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and propose technical improvements.
  • Draft technical reports, experimental summaries, and presentations for internal R&D stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including Technical Data Sheets (TDS), feature descriptions, and internal protocols.
  • Support printing trials and customer-related activities, under guidance of senior staff.
  • Actively collaborate within multidisciplinary project teams (chemistry, optics, electronics, software).

PROFILE:

  • Swiss Federal Certificate (CFC/EFZ) in Chemical Laboratory Technology with minimum 7 year of relevant experience,or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent (no prior industrial experience required).
  • Strong interest and/or initial experience in ink formulation and functional materials.
  • Hands-on laboratory mindset with experience (or strong aptitude) in using measurement and characterization equipment across different techniques.
  • Ability to design experiments, follow protocols, and ensure data quality and traceability.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and data analysis.

  • Increasingly autonomous, with the ability to manage laboratory tasks with limited supervision.
