Chemist

We are looking for a Chemist for our Westbury, NY facility. In this role you will prepare, test, and analyze materials to verify chemical, physical, and mechanical properties in accordance with internal specifications, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards. This role supports day-to-day operations within a Nadcap accredited materials testing laboratory and production environment, including equipment maintenance, calibration, inspections, sampling, and accurate documentation of results. The position requires strong attention to detail, computer proficiency, and the ability to collect, analyze, and record data accurately.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Perform standard physical, mechanical, and chemical testing on raw materials and finished products using approved techniques, instruments, and equipment (including ICP, XRF, XRD, FTIR, Microtrac as applicable).
  • Review purchase order requirements and certificates of analysis for incoming raw materials.
  • Inspect, test, and release materials and products for distribution.
  • Conduct routine instrument verification checks, calibrations, and performance monitoring.
  • Prepare standard solutions, reagents, and test documentation as required.
  • Maintain accurate inspection, test, calibration, and quality records within established systems.
  • Retain samples per quality requirements.
  • Participate in round-robin and proficiency testing programs.
  • Support non-standard testing and investigative work as assigned.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory equipment issues and coordinate with facilities, maintenance, or external service providers to minimize disruption to laboratory operations.
  • Support the installation, validation, and qualification of new laboratory equipment and software.
  • Adhere to all quality, environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Your Profile:

  • Degree in chemistry or materials science with a minimum of one year experience working in an industrial laboratory.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining laboratory and testing equipment.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office; experience with SAP and LIMS systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of quality and environmental standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 14001, ISO/IEC 17025, or similar.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately collect, analyze, and document test data.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and confidently.

For individuals assigned, hired to work or working remotely in/out of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Nevada, Washington State, or New York City, Oerlikon is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the current compensation range for this position, which is $68,000 to $88,000 per year. Some positions within Oerlikon may also offer eligibility to participate in a discretionary incentive program. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for the role will be based on a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, internal equity, job location, work experience, education, training, certifications, licenses, etc. Therefore, as compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each individual, it is likely that not all applicants will be hired at the highest end of the listed compensation range. Our total compensation package goes beyond base compensation and it will include a competitive benefits package starting with 2 weeks paid time off accrued on a monthly basis, 12 holidays, 48 hours personal/sick time (exception for NY where we follow State law,) medical, dental, vision, 401K, holidays, pet insurance and tuition reimbursement all effective day one of hire.
