Job Description

Position: Chemical Operator Reports To: Operations Supervisor Location: Cairo, Ohio Employment Type: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt Shift: 12-Hour Rotating (Overtime as needed) Rate: $30/hr. to start. Once the formal operator certification program has been completed, the top rate increases to the A Operator rate of $49/hr.

Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location. The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements. Please note that the compensation details listed in the US roles postings reflect the hourly rate only, and do not include benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives such as overtime and shift premiums.

About This Role and You

Join a highly specialized operations team at one of the most advanced Ultra‑Pure Sulfuric Acid manufacturing facilities in the world in Cairo, Ohio. This is not a typical chemical operator job — it’s a chance to work in a cutting‑edge continuous manufacturing environment that focuses on safety, attention to detail, strong technical aptitude, and disciplined work practices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in manufacturing, chemical processing, or industrial operations.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions, SOPs, and safety guidelines with precision.
  • Comfortable working with chemicals, industrial equipment, and digital tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry and communication.

Preferred:

  • Experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, or food manufacturing.
  • Mechanical aptitude or experience with process troubleshooting.

Medical Requirement

Chemtrade is committed to the safety and health of its employees and the public. All employees are required to complete and pass their annually held medical assessments, including but not limited to the Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) and the ability to wear a respirator as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor advanced chemical processing equipment, including absorbers, strippers, pumps, filtration systems, furnaces, and boiler systems.
  • Maintain stable production by monitoring temperature, pressure, flow rates, and other critical parameters.
  • Follow detailed checklists, SOPs, and standard work processes with precision.
  • Perform routine equipment rounds, identify abnormalities, and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Collect samples and conduct basic quality checks to ensure Ultra‑Pure product specifications are met.
  • Load and unload raw materials, intermediates, and finished products safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate digital and written production records using tools tablet‑based systems.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, quality, and safety teams to support plant reliability and performance.
  • Participate in safety programs including incident reporting, Management of Change (MOC), and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
  • Maintain housekeeping and operational discipline throughout assigned areas.
  • Complete Safe Work Permits (Confined Space, Line Break, Hot Work).
  • Progress through a structured certification program to achieve higher operator levels and increased pay.

Work Environment

  • Industrial plant setting with exposure to chemicals, heat, noise, and moving equipment.
  • Use of PPE such as gloves, goggles, respirators, and protective clothing.
  • Rotating shifts or overtime may be required based on production needs.
  • This job requires climbing stairs- ladders and lifting (within OSHA guidelines).
