The Process Technology team ensures the critical utilities that enable ASML’s manufacturing operations. These include systems for cooling water, high‑purity gases, vacuum management and safety. As hydrogen becomes more important for our future systems, on‑site production through methanol reforming creates a continuous CO2 stream. This internship focuses on defining how this CO2 should be managed in a practical, scalable and robust way. Your work will directly shape how future hydrogen systems are implemented at ASML.
You will explore how CO2 from on‑site hydrogen production can be handled or reused. You will assess realistic approaches, work with engineers across utilities and develop a fact‑based recommendation. The goal is a clear and implementable direction, not a theoretical comparison. Your main responsibilities will be:
Define the CO2 stream in practical engineering terms
Identify and assess realistic handling approaches
Evaluate reuse, conditioning, storage or off‑site options
Compare directions based on simplicity, cost and reliability
Explore potential CO2 use cases on or near the site
Validate concepts using calculations or modelling
Work with engineers, suppliers and system owners
This is a master’s (thesis) internship for a minimum of 5 months. It requires an investment of 40 hours per week, out of which 3 days per week are onsite in Veldhoven. The start date is projected at the end of August 2026.
To be suitable for the internship, you:
Are enrolled in a master’s degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, or a related study program.
Have strong fundamentals in heat and mass balance, thermodynamics and process behaviour
Are comfortable working with real constraints and incomplete information
Are willing to question the status quo and drive towards clear conclusions
Are able to communicate in English at a professional level.
Other requirements you need to meet:
You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

Who are we?
ASML is an innovation leader in the global semiconductor industry. We make machines that chipmakers use to mass produce microchips. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands with just a handful of employees, we’ve now grown to over 40,000 employees, 143 nationalities and more than 60 locations around the world.
What do we do?
We provide chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography. Our lithography systems use ultraviolet light to create billions of tiny structures on silicon that together make up a microchip. We push our technology to new limits to enable our customers to create smaller, faster and more powerful chips.
Who are our people?
While you may think that only engineers and mathematicians work at ASML, you'll be surprised to find out that our people come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Across ASML, we have dedicated teams that manage customer support, communications and media, IT, software development and more. Every team in the company is essential for pushing our technology and the industry forward.
If you love to tackle challenges and innovate in a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment with all the flexibility and freedom to unleash your full potential, ASML is the place to be.
