Job Description

As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University Plymouth is seeking a part-time Cheerleading Head Coach. The Cheerleading Head Coach will promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by contributing to the ongoing development of student-athletes in their academics, athletics, and faith. MU Plymouth is a member school of the National Junior College Athletics Association. This position reports directly to the Athletic Director at MU Plymouth.

Coaches are to lead with Franciscan values and be able to model and provide strong leadership and mentorship to their students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a successful program that aligns with the school's mission and values.
  • Recruitment and retention of student-athletes to build a competitive team and support enrollment goals.
  • Plan and execute effective practice sessions and game strategies.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to student-athletes athletically, academically, personally, and spiritually.
  • Maintain compliance with NJCAA and MCCAA rules and regulations.
  • Collaborate and communicate with athletic department staff, academic advisors, faculty, and other campus stakeholders.
  • Management of team budget and travel arrangements.
  • Promote the program through community engagement.
  • Assemble and manage coaching staff.
  • Attend coaches’ meetings and training when required/or needed.
  • Coordinate all meal/food planning and needs with campus food services or make the team's arrangements for food on weekends or when traveling.
  • Monitoring athletes' grades and attendance weekly and reporting challenges or concerns promptly to AD.
  • Schedule all lodging and traveling needs (scheduling vehicles) with campus maintenance/ops and AD.
  • Submit all purchase orders/supply orders by deadlines and follow the proper process for turnaround to assistant AD.
  • Successfully complete NJCAA compliance/eligibility training for MU coaches beginning in Fall 2026.
  • Meaningfully engage in sport-specific fundraising activities as well as athletic-department fundraising initiatives as assigned by the Athletic Director.
  • Maintain compliance with all MU institutional policies and procedures for employees as well as all MU athletics policies and procedures for employees working in MU athletics.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations.
  • Comply with other reasonable directives and duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Required Qualifications:

  • Preferred bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Prior coaching experience (high school, college, and/or studio/club)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must display excellent customer and staff relation skills
  • Knowledge of and a commitment to the mission of Marian University
