Job Description

At Ford Motor Company, we believe freedom of movement drives human progress. We also believe in providing you with the freedom to define and realize your dreams! With our incredible plans for the future of mobility, we have a wide variety of opportunities for you to accelerate your career potential as you help us define tomorrow’s transportation.

Electric Vehicle Digital Design (EVDD) is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up breakthrough electric vehicles. By joining the best software, engineering, design and UX talent, you will be a part of creating new technologies and concepts that can be applied across the Ford enterprise. Being on the EVDD team means building the future as Ford’s center of innovation and growth through electric and connected vehicles and services.

We are looking for embedded software professionals to join our agile, technically expert engineering team that is proudly innovative, adaptable, curious, and organized to capitalize on emerging trends and opportunities.

Why This Role Matters

At Ford, we are redefining the relationship between software and physical vehicle dynamics. As a Chassis Control Software Integration Engineer, you won’t just manage suppliers or write isolated code. You will sit at the absolute intersection of advanced software architecture and raw vehicle physics.

We are looking for an engineer who applies extensive and diversified knowledge of these two domains to ensure that millions of Ford vehicles steer, stop, and handle flawlessly under all driving conditions. This is a high-stakes, safety-critical role where your work directly impacts vehicle safety, performance, and the signature driving dynamics of iconic global platforms.

We are seeking a technically credible and outcome-oriented engineer who thrives on solving complex mechatronic challenges and delivering robust, production-ready software.

Your technical credibility will not only influence our in-house software environment, you will be given the autonomy to define new best practices, architect future software platforms, and mentor the next generation of Ford control engineers.

What You Will Do (Your Impact, Ownership & Autonomy)

  • Own In-House Software: Lead the end-to-end development of Ford’s in-house chassis software. You will design requirements, develop model-based features, auto-generate production-ready C-code, and integrate it into Tier-1 software environments.
  • Master System Complexity: Work across complex, distributed vehicle architectures. You will ensure seamless communication and integration between electronic braking, steering, and active suspension systems.
  • Drive Absolute Reliability: In a safety-critical domain, quality is paramount. You will implement and enforce strict coding standards (e.g., MISRA-C), perform static code analysis, and validate software on Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulators and prototype vehicles.
  • Influence the Process: You will have the autonomy to innovate. We want you to identify bottlenecks in our current pipeline and design new automated testing tools, scripting environments, and deployment workflows to scale our productivity.
  • Collaborate and Resolve: Work side-by-side with System, Feature, and Calibration Engineers to debug, root-cause, and resolve complex electromechanical issues during critical launch phases.

The Minimum Requirements...

We value deep, practical engineering capability over academic checklists. If you are a stellar, outcome-oriented engineer with a proven track record of shipping reliable embedded software, we want to talk to you.

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering (with a strong controls/software focus), or a related technical field.
  • Embedded Software Expertise: 5+ years of experience developing and debugging embedded software applications (using C/C++ or Model-Based Design).
  • Model-Based Design: 2+ years of hands-on experience with Matlab and Simulink for control algorithm development.
  • Vehicle Networking & Diagnostics: 3+ years of experience working with automotive communication networks (CAN/LIN) and Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) using Vector tools (such as CANoe or CANape).
  • Modern Workflows: 3+ years of experience utilizing Software Configuration Management tools (like Git/GitHub) and automated test environments (HIL/Bench testing).
  • Domain Experience: 1+ years of experience working within an engineering role for mechatronic or chassis systems (such as steering, braking, active suspension, or powertrain controls).

Nice To Haves (What will help you stand out)...

  • Advanced Degree: Master’s Degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Safety-Critical Expertise: Familiarity with functional safety standards (ISO 26262), static code analysis tools (such as Polyspace), and MISRA-C compliance.
  • Systems Engineering Mindset: Experience defining software requirements, architecture, and applying rigorous Failure Mode Avoidance disciplines.
  • Leadership & Mentorship Potential: A natural passion for sharing knowledge, improving engineering quality, standardizing processes, and collaborating across cross-functional teams.
  • Problem-Solving Resilience: Demonstrated ability to step up, take ownership, and resolve urgent technical issues during critical vehicle integration or launch windows.
  • Communications and project management skills demonstrating an ability to present analytical results to executives in verbal and written form and ability to influence senior leaders, peers, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills, driven by quality, and committed to improving customer satisfaction

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder…or all of the above? No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:

• Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
• Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more

• Established and active employee resource groups
• Paid time off for individual and team community service
• A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day
• Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.
