This position is for 3:00 pm -11:00 pm with rotating weekends.

Gaudenzia's Mission: Gaudenzia's Mission is to promote long-term recovery by providing comprehensive treatment and support to people with substance use disorder, co-occurring mental health disorders, and related conditions, regardless of individual circumstances.

This individual is responsible for providing oversight of the day-to-day functions and staffing of the medical staff in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, and Program Leadership. They will participate in facility activities as designated by the Nurse Manager or designee. This individual will assist in ensuring compliance with meeting all local, state, and federal regulations as well as accrediting agency standards. Education, training, and mentoring nursing staff will be a primary function.

Qualifications:

Education Degree from an accredited college or university's professional nursing program; must possess current RN license in good standing for the applicable state and current CPR Certification.

Experience Two to five years nursing experience, with one year in addictions, mental health, or related specialty. BSN or Addiction/Psych certification serves as 1 year experience.

Your responsibilities in this role may include:

  • Treat all clients and staff with dignity and respect
  • Complete or ensure completion of initial nursing assessment for clients and document in chart within 8 hours of admission in accordance with established program policies and state regulation
  • Determine appropriateness and timely scheduling appointments with Health Care Providers to secure complete physical examinations, psychiatric appointments, required health screenings, and supplemental tests
  • Oversight of medication practices, as well supervise the self-administered medications, where appropriate and allowed by regulation
  • Maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies and accurate records of same in compliance with governing regulations and agency policy
  • Ensure that clients have appropriate medical coverage to guarantee safety, adequate care, and provider compliance for payment
  • Ensure proper safety and security of medication handling, storage, inventory, control, and administration as well as the proper storage of medical supplies as required by regulation
  • Develop and implement individual or group health seminars, including, but not limited to: HIV/AIDS, nutrition, medication education, infectious diseases, mental health, MAT, and substance use disorders and etc.
  • Participate in treatment/multidisciplinary team meetings, as directed
  • Assure adherence to infection control policies and practices
  • Respond and coordinate referrals for crisis, emergency care, or urgent care as warranted
  • Collaborates with stakeholders when necessary to support facility needs
  • Maintain licensure with good standing local, state and federal guidelines
  • Assumes Nurse Managers duties during designated times, not to exceed more that 3 consecutive weeks unless otherwise agreed upon in writing with Human Resources
  • Required to work every other weekend as determined necessary by the Nurse Manager and scheduling needs
  • Minimum holiday requirement is 1 major summer holiday (Memorial Day, Independence Day or Labor Day) and 1 major winter Holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's Day (night shift: New Year's Eve) This position is deemed essential and will be required to work during inclement weather
  • For Gaudenzia sites with multiple programs, you may be required to work in any of the programs based on staffing needs
  • Other related duties as assigned by Nurse Supervisor/Manager or designee
  • Other duties will include, but not limited to: daily oversight of administering medications and recording this activity in the appropriate medical chart; arranging and coordinating all medical, dental, and vision exam appointments; ensuring there are adequate medical supplies; and securing necessary medical records on all clients.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the specific health care issues and co-morbidities experienced by individuals with substance use disorder and mental illness
  • Knowledge of special population being served, including individuals on medication-assisted treatment (MAT), individuals with criminal justice involvement, women and children, homeless, HIV/AIDS, etc.
  • Knowledge of basic principles, practices, and procedures involved in treatment programs
  • Knowledge of correct record keeping in accordance with regulatory agencies and standards of practice
  • Knowledge of proper nutritional requirements and practices for adults and children
  • Knowledge of safe standards of nursing practice
  • Ability to operate electronic health record systems and accurately record and interpret medical data
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work with clients to gain confidence and cooperation
  • Ability to successfully work with others from various cultures and backgrounds
  • Ability to plan and organize work and prepare appropriate, accurate records and reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, health care providers, outside agencies, institutions and the general public
  • Skilled at using computers, including familiarity and faculty with Microsoft Office programs like Word and Excel
