POSITION: Charge Master Operator

JOB GRADING: B - Upper

DEPARTMENT: Mining

SITE: South Deep Gold Mine

The Charge Master Operator is accountable for filling up the chargemaster with emulsion tramming to the long hole stope to be charged up, then taking density test on the emulsion and charging up long hole stopes.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Charge Master Certificate
  • Dover B result
  • Driver’s license
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a mining environment
  • Secure full Gold Fields Security and Related Occupational Screening
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Key Competencies:

  • Established personal safety delivery record
  • Strong inter and intra-team collaboration skills
  • Sound spoken and written English communication skills
  • Completion of a machine appreciation awareness programme (O4R/M4R or equivalent)
  • Ability to cope with ambiguity with high personal resilience and change adaptability
  • Established problem-solving skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains Safety, Health and Environmental practices according to standards and procedures
  • Does a pre-use inspection on this equipment by means of a checklist and report deficiencies to the supervisor
  • Performs basic maintenance on equipment, e.g., top-up engine oil, water and hydraulic oil, check for oil leaks and clean equipment according to standards and procedures
  • Performs end of shift procedures according to standards and procedures e.g., parks the Charge Master at the designated area, cleans equipment and reports to supervisor.
  • Performs any other activities necessary for the effective completion of his/her work
  • Filling up the chargemaster with emulsion tramming to the LHS to be charged up then taking density test on the emulsion and charging up long hole stopes
