The Charge capture representative is responsible for reviewing all surgical case charges and ensuring that they are accurately entered into the correct system(s). The employee will assist with auditing of cases and accounts and ensure that accurate and timely charge capture is completed on a daily basis The employee ensures all cases are attached to an active, billable account number, is knowledge navigating the electronic medical record (EMR) and follows the process to resolve non-compliant accounts.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs manual bill entry, correcting or editing charges, as directed or reported

  • Ensures 100% of surgical cases and manual charges are accounted for and that patient information is correct for billing including clinical documentation that impacts charges; accurately applies charge policies to meet regulatory guidelines and minimize risk to the organization

  • Recognizes any medical and/or surgical inconsistencies in the intra-operative records, or logs; tracks and follows up on charge issues in a timely manner, notifying appropriate Manager or staff.

  • Manages workflow in an efficient manner to meet productivity target; ensures low revenue impact through minimal errors or omissions

  • Audits implant data and charges using clinical and vendor documentation when present; applies case knowledge to ensure implants are captured for tracking

  • Ensure case charges pass from EMR to billing system, applying established process for issue resolution

  • Responsible for accurate charge capture, reporting new items for adding to the database, items needing charge codes, and maintaining the implant log;

  • Performs all daily Charge Reconciliation tasks to ensure timeliness and accuracy of charge capture; tracks all bill holds and releases them as soon as possible to optimize organizational cash flow

Other Functions:

  • Implements an age-appropriate plan of care in conjunction with the health care team per Scope of Service

  • Attends all required educational programs and completes all KNOW Modules

  • Maintains completed documents in an orderly fashion for retrieval and auditing purposes

  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct

  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Additional Job Description:

Education:

  • High school graduate or GED/Equivalent (required)
  • Scrub Tech or Operating Room RN training (preferred)

Experience:

  • One (1) year experience in a health care related field AND 6 months previous surgery experience (required)

OR

  • Successful completion of surgical training program and competency exam (required)
  • Completion of a medical terminology class (preferred)
  • Knowledge in coding, accounting
