As part of the Business Applications Services (BAS) Tribe, our mission is to deliver and continuously enhance Swift’s Ordering, Billing, Finance, and Provisioning services while evolving our on-premises and cloud technology landscape. Building on several years of transformation, we are accelerating the consolidation and modernization of our delivery model and are seeking an experienced Chapter Lead to lead a development Chapter focused on Pega, User interfaces , Integration, CI/CD, APIs, and Agentic AI.

Reporting to a member of the Tribe Leadership Team and working closely with Product Owners, Business Leads, Architects, Testers, and System Engineers, you will lead and develop a Chapter of 15 headcount software engineers and subject matter experts. You will be responsible for coordinating and upskilling Chapter members, contributing to the successful delivery of business initiatives, and ensuring alignment with governance, security, operational KPIs, and delivery processes.

A key aspect of the role is fostering a high-performing engineering culture through coaching, mentoring, and continuous development of your team members. Leveraging your solid technical background and development experience, you will guide engineering practices, promote innovation, and ensure effective collaboration and communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
You will join an Engineering organization within a diverse Tribe of more than 170 enthusiastic professionals across Belgium and Malaysia. Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, coach, and develop engineers within the chapter, fostering both professional growth and technical excellence.

  • Set annual objectives aligned with company goals and KPIs. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, monitor progress, provide continuous feedback, and support career development discussions.

  • Guide engineers in creating and achieving their Individual Development Plans, helping them build the skills and experiences needed to reach their career aspirations.

  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing engineering culture that encourages teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Create a psychologically safe work environment where team members feel comfortable sharing ideas, learning from mistakes, challenging assumptions, and engaging in constructive discussions.

  • Actively drive employee engagement, talent development, succession planning, and the continuous enhancement of chapter capabilities.

  • Lead with empathy, integrity, and transparency, promoting a culture of ownership, accountability, and trust.

  • Recognize and celebrate individual and team achievements while addressing challenges in a fair, consistent, and supportive manner.

  • Act as a role model for SWIFT values and leadership behaviors, inspiring teams to deliver high-quality outcomes and embrace change positively.

  • Support the hiring, onboarding, development, and retention of engineering talent, ensuring the chapter attracts and maintains the skills required to meet current and future business needs

  • Manage chapter capacity, workforce planning, and skills inventories to ensure an optimal balance of expertise across teams. Identify skill gaps proactively and coordinate targeted learning, mentoring, reskilling, and development opportunities to address them.

Engineering Excellence

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the end-to-end software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and support.

  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve engineering standards, development practices, coding guidelines, and quality frameworks across the chapter.

  • Promote and ensure adherence to security standards, DevOps principles, automation practices, and operational excellence throughout the software delivery lifecycle.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes, tooling, and ways of working to enhance efficiency, quality, and delivery outcomes.

  • Foster a culture of innovation by encouraging experimentation, adoption of modern engineering practices, and the effective implementation of new ideas from concept to realization.

  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and coaching to engineers and technical leads, supporting informed decision-making and high-quality solution design.

  • Encourage knowledge sharing, communities of practice, and cross-team collaboration to strengthen organizational capabilities and reduce key-person dependencies.

  • Champion the development and adoption of reusable components, standardized frameworks, and common engineering patterns to improve consistency, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Influence the engineering strategy of the organization and contribute actively to the definition and execution of the technology roadmap.

  • Monitor and promote engineering quality through metrics, reviews, automation, and best practices, ensuring reliable, secure, and resilient solutions.

  • Stay informed of emerging technologies, industry trends, and engineering practices, assessing their relevance and potential value to the organization.

  • Partner closely with Product Owners, Architects, and other stakeholders to align technical decisions with business objectives and long-term strategic goals.

  • Education

University degree in computer science or related field. Or equivalent work experience.

  • Experience

8 to 10 years of experience in software development, with a strong proven experience leading a team.
