About The Role 

The Chaplain provides spiritual care and opportunities for spiritual growth to residents, families and team members as part of our vision for holistic care. The Chaplain offers Christian leadership by example and hospitality through presence, journeying with others in their joys and challenges while offering spiritual support and helping individuals take the next step in their spiritual journeys. The Chaplain works to create an empowering environment that elevates the autonomy, independence and capacity of seniors to live their best lives in our communities.

Requirements  

Education and Experience

• Graduate degree in Ministry (e.g., M.A., M.C.S., M.Div.) preferred
• Clinical Psychospiritual Education (CPE) or equivalent training in professional chaplaincy preferred
• 1–2 years' experience in a long-term care, healthcare or hospital setting preferred
• 3–5 years in Christian ministry strongly preferred
• 1–2 years working with seniors preferred
• Consideration will be given to life experience and personal learning

Ministerial Credentials

• Chaplains must affirm and adhere to Baptist Housing's Statement of Faith as a condition of employment
• Chaplains must receive endorsement from Fellowship Pacific within the first three months of employment, as a condition of employment

• Able to build and maintain meaningful personal and professional relationships, and to teach in both formal and informal settings
• Proven ability to assess and respond to individual spiritual and emotional needs
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to provide effective and timely spiritual care regardless of religious faith or background
• Proven skill in planning, implementing and evaluating activities and programs
• Able to address spiritual concerns clearly and sensitively from a Biblical perspective without proselytizing, while respecting individual beliefs and the right to privacy
• Compassion and empathy for seniors, with an understanding of the spiritual, physical and emotional aspects of aging
• Understands spiritual care as an integral part of holistic wellness for seniors
• Experience offering guidance and intentional presence in times of crisis and need
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with flexible hours; physically, emotionally and mentally equipped for a dynamic work environment
• Proficient with computers and software for email, online meetings, electronic filing and reporting

Responsibilities

• Models servant leadership and Christian values for residents, families and team members, and responds to questions about Christian faith and practice
• Builds relationships with residents that support their social, emotional and spiritual needs, respecting diverse backgrounds and beliefs
• Leads optional worship, Bible teaching, prayer and fellowship programs
• Provides end-of-life, grief and hospital visitation support, and coordinates memorial services
• Helps residents stay connected to their own faith communities
• Completes spiritual care assessments, participates in care conferences and care planning, and charts significant information
• Offers spiritual, emotional and ethical support to team members on request, and fosters a workplace that respects each person's beliefs
• Recruits, trains and supervises spiritual care volunteers in partnership with the volunteer program
• Networks with local churches, ministries and chaplains, and with other faith leaders as needed
• Provides timely reports and statistics to the Administrator and the AVP of Spiritual Care, and contributes to program planning and budgets
• Promotes a safe workplace by following safe practices and identifying and reporting hazards
• Commits to ongoing professional development
• Other duties as assigned

Compensation & Benefits   

You will earn an hourly wage of $30.00-$35.00 and be welcomed into an environment where support for you is prioritized.
