Position Summary

The Chaplain provides compassionate, non-proselytizing spiritual care through presence, active listening, and respect for the diverse beliefs and traditions of residents, including those who identify as Christian, non-Christian, or non-religious. This role emphasizes relational ministry, interfaith sensitivity, and facilitating connections between residents and their own faith communities.

The Chaplain serves as a visible and accessible pastoral presence within a multicultural, pluralistic environment—demonstrating adaptability, emotional intelligence, and respect for each resident’s religious and cultural autonomy.

The Chaplaincy role requires a practitioner who is seasoned and equipped to minister within a diverse, multi-faith, pluralistic environment. This includes the ability to honor and support a wide range of spiritual expressions without directing individuals toward a single theological perspective.

Essential Job Functions

1. Promote and embody the mission of Westminster Communities of Florida by delivering Legendary Service in all interactions.
2. Provide spiritual care and pastoral counseling to residents, families, and team members through presence, attentive listening, and compassionate support.
3. Serve as an accessible resource and consistent pastoral presence within the community.
4. Visit residents in times of need, including illness, hospitalization, transition, grief, end-of-life, and other personal crises.
5. Plan and lead weekly chapel gatherings and coordinate additional spiritual opportunities that are inclusive and sensitive to a range of traditions.
6. Develop articles and facilitate group programs addressing psychospiritual topics, meaning-making, and life reflection.
7. Promote spiritual growth, emotional wellbeing, social engagement, and intellectual development among residents.
8. Assist with memorial services and support families during bereavement.
9. Facilitate and encourage residents’ participation in their own faith communities.
10. Serve as an ecumenical and interfaith liaison, building relationships with local houses of worship and faith leaders across traditions.
11. Coordinate and support campus-wide outings or field trips for residents.
12. Demonstrate the ability to navigate diverse spiritual landscapes with sensitivity, confidence, and respect for all cultural and faith practices.
13. Assist in chaplaincy duties under the supervision of the Administrator and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in religious studies or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution
2. Ordination and current good standing within a mainline Protestant or other recognized denomination
3. Minimum of three (3) years of parish ministry or equivalent ministerial experience
4. Demonstrated experience working with older adults in ecumenical and/or interfaith ministry contexts
5. Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to provide pastoral care across diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master of Divinity or equivalent degree from a regionally accredited institution and/or accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS)
2. At least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent
3. Prior experience in healthcare, senior living, or institutional chaplaincy settings
4. Demonstrated interfaith competency and multicultural ministry experience
5. Bilingual, with fluency in Spanish
