If you’re passionate about spiritual care, energized by collaboration, and inspired by service, this role offers an opportunity to make a profound difference every single day.

Why You’ll Love This Role

As a Chaplain at Saint Alphonsus, you’ll be a fully integrated member of the care team, offering compassionate, inclusive spiritual support across the continuum of care. Your presence will help foster healing, dignity, resilience, and hope — not only for those we serve, but for the colleagues you support as well.

  • Assess spiritual needs and respond with individualized, meaningful interventions

  • Honor and respect each person’s beliefs, values, and practices as part of the healing process

  • Offer spiritual care during times of crisis, illness, grief, transition, and reflection

Collaborate as a Clinical Team Member

  • Partner with physicians, nurses, social workers, and care teams as a recognized clinical professional

  • Document spiritual assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record

  • Observe outcomes of care and adapt support to meet evolving needs

Support Healthy Communities & Colleagues

  • Develop and participate in spiritual care programs that promote community well‑being

  • Collaborate with faith leaders (churches, synagogues, mosques, and more) to support members receiving care

  • Educate and coach colleagues to recognize and respond to spiritual distress

  • Promote programs focused on workplace spirituality, resilience, and well‑being

Live the Mission

  • Model and integrate Trinity Health’s Mission, Vision, and Values in all interactions

  • Participate in quality improvement and program evaluation initiatives alongside the Spiritual Care Manager

  • Maintain ethical, professional practice aligned with regulatory standards and organizational integrity

Care for Yourself, Too

  • Engage in ongoing personal formation, reflection, and self‑care to support resilience and healthy work‑life balance

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in theology, religion, spiritual care, spirituality, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • At least 1 year of Spiritual Care experience, including CPE training (chaplaincy or health care ministry experience preferred)

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  • Comfort working in a collaborative, shared‑leadership environment

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and clinical documentation systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) through APC, CASC, NACC, or NAJC

    • Includes a qualifying master’s degree, 4 units (1,600 hours) of ACPE‑accredited CPE

    • Faith‑based endorsement from a recognized certifying body

Key Strengths for Success

  • Ability to design and implement spiritual care programs across the care continuum

  • Confident communicator who can work comfortably with clinical terminology

  • A personal presence rooted in honesty, integrity, compassion, and inspiration
