Job Description

Change Manager

  • Initial 12 month fixed-term contract with strong likelihood of extension
  • New role, new team, new project!

About the Role

The Change Manager – Day of Operations is responsible for leading the people side of the implementation of a new and common Day of Operations solution (part of a Kinetic wide transformation program Our Tools) across Australia and New Zealand. This role will ensure our people understand the project and program and they fit within broader business strategy, what’s changing, why it matters, and what it means for them.

This role is about making change work in the real world – in depots, on early starts, with drivers, allocators, operations supervisors and depot leaders. Success will be measured by adoption, confidence, and practical use of the Day of Operations solution, not by the quality of slide decks or adherence to a textbook change methodology.

You will work closely with operations leaders, project teams and front-line teams to ensure the solution fits the way Kinetic actually runs day-to-day.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the change approach for the Day of Operations solution across depots, states and countries
  • Spend time in depots to understand real day-of-operations practices
  • Translate system and process changes into plain English for front-line teams
  • Build strong, credible relationships with drivers, allocators and depot leaders
  • Enable leaders to confidently lead change locally
  • Focus on adoption, behaviour change and post-go-live stabilisation
  • Work closely with project, operations, IT and 3rd party teams to shape practical outcomes
  • Proactively work with across the program to identify cross project impacts

What You Will Need

  • We value experience and credibility over formal qualifications
  • Hands-on experience delivering change in operational, front-line environments
  • Strong understanding of depot-based or shift-based workforces
  • Ability to quickly build trust with drivers and operational front-line teams
  • Pragmatic approach to change that adapts to the business context
  • Experience with Day of Operations tools (highly regarded but not mandatory)
  • Significant proven experience as a senior change manager
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to communicate with all stakeholders internal and external to the organisation
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated enthusiastic approach to day-to-day business and positive approach to a continual changing work environment

About Kinetic

Established over 45 years ago, Kinetic has grown to become the largest bus operator in Australia and New Zealand, and a global, multi-modal transport network with operations that span across the UK, Europe and Singapore.

We began in 1978 with Melbourne’s Skybus – a cost efficient, reliable airport transfer service. Today, we manage a global network of bus and rail services, with a team of 36,000 dedicated people and 11,000 buses seamlessly moving over 100 million passengers every year.

We’re the trusted operator of urban, regional, school and charter bus services across Australia and New Zealand. We operate 40 per cent of buses in Queensland, a third of Melbourne’s bus network, and almost half of bus services in Tasmania. In NZ, we’re proud to partner with councils in Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and Tauranga.

Our expertise spans continents, operating in five countries across Europe. In the UK, we run the Go Ahead network – alongside joint venture partner Globalvia – which includes the Govia Thameslink rail link, the largest and most complex rail system in the country.

We believe in improving the communities in which we live and operate, and making a positive impact on people’s lives.

We’re removing the diesel buses that emit millions of tons of greenhouse gases every year. We’re putting women up front. And we believe in LGBTQI+ inclusion and the freedom to be your true self.

Governments, airports, businesses, schools and councils count on us every day. You too, can count on Kinetic.
