This senior leadership role is responsible for advancing the strategic, clinical, educational, and research missions of the Department. The Chair will foster excellence in patient care, innovative research, top-tier education and training programs, and will champion equity and inclusion. As a key member of the institution's leadership team, the Chair will collaborate across disciplines to achieve strategic goals and establish the Department as a national model for integrated academic and clinical excellence in pathology. This position requires a dynamic, passionate, and experienced physician/scientist leader with a proven track record across the spectrum of individual scholarship, collaborative academic leadership, clinical and research program development, educational excellence, successful faculty recruitment and retention, community engagement, and the design and implementation of effective programs within and across complexorganizations. Key Responsibilities:· In collaboration with the leadership of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, provide visionary and innovative leadership to lead the Department into the next phase of growth and development.· Recruit, hire, and retain outstanding faculty and departmental leaders from diverse backgrounds. Ensure an atmosphere of respect, professional support, and development for all stakeholders.· Support the goal of recognizing the value of all employees, embracing diversity, and contributing to a positive, collaborative culture that engenders a commitment to the organization's success.· Ensure a deliberate and priority-driven investment into research, educational, and clinical activities for the Department and institution.· Provide the vision and leadership to achieve superior clinical programs within pathology and related disciplines. Work with other leaders at the University of Colorado to build and grow areas of acknowledged clinical excellence.· Define and lead the research strategy, supporting principal investigators and other faculty within the Department in efforts to secure NIH and other grant funding, and ensuring deliberate investment into research activities and priorities to promote growth and facilitate future success.· Ensure delivery of excellent clinical education and advanced training to medical students, residents, and fellows. Provide leadership and oversight to the residency and fellowship programs within the Department and ensure learners are receiving comprehensive training and development opportunities.· Set and execute the Department's digital pathology strategy, including whole slide imaging, image management, and integration of computational tools into the diagnostic workflow, capitalizing on the concurrent AP laboratory expansion and Epic Beaker migration.· Supervise, prepare, implement, and monitor the budget so that it encompasses all funding sources and complies with grant, legislative, and institutional guidelines. Work Location:Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado Why Join Us:The Department of Pathology (DOP) is one of the largest and most comprehensive academic pathology departments in the Rocky Mountain region. Over the past 15 years, the Department has more than doubled in size, growing from approximately 40 to nearly 120 faculty in parallel with the remarkable expansion of itshospital-based affiliates and the greater Denver community. Today, the Department is home to a robust cohort of physician and scientist faculty, including 77 MD faculty, alongside doctoral-level laboratorians, research scientists, veterinarian faculty, residents, fellows, and a large complement of technical and administrative staff. The Department has a distinctive, centralized operational and financial structure organized without sections or internal centers. While faculty are widely distributed across multiple buildings and hospitals on the Anschutz Medical Campus, this horizontal model promotes administrative efficiency, intradepartmental coordination, and collaboration across subspecialty areas rather than a siloed, vertical organization. The senior leadership tier includes 13 Vice Chairs along with numerous laboratory and program directors, reflecting an intentionalinvestment in career development and leadership at every academic rank. The Department has proven to be a notable producer of leaders, having graduated faculty into five departmental chairs and two deanships. Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. · M.D. and Board Certification in Pathology· Must meet the requirements for a faculty appointment at the full professor level at the University of Colorado, Anschuitz School of Medicine· Experience as a chair, vice chair, division chief, or in a similar executive role with a record of developing clinical and scholastic programs; advancing the careers and achievements of faculty, other providers, and staff; and leading the educational activities of students, residents, and fellows.· A record of scholarly academic accomplishments as reflected in number and impact of publications, history of successful funding, and serving in national and international societies.· History managing complex clinical programs focused on access, quality, patient satisfaction, and provider support.· Experience managing budgets and providing financial oversight.
