Job Description

TeachingThe incumbent will be expected to participate in the teaching programs of the Department of Medicine including the residency program based at Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, The Miriam Hospital and the Providence Veterans Affairs Hospital – as well as fellowship programs in Addiction Medicine; Cardiology – Electrophysiology; Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism; General Cardiology; Hematology/Oncology; Hospice and Palliative Medicine; Interventional Cardiology; Pulmonary Diseases/Critical Care Medicine; Structural Heart Disease; Women & Infants Fellowship in Obstetric & Consultative Medicine; Adult/Pediatric Infectious Disease Combined; Critical Care Medicine; Gastroenterology; Geriatric Medicine; HIV Medicine; Infectious Diseases (adult); Nephrology; Rheumatology; Vascular and Endovascular Medicine.

ResearchThe incumbent will be expected to establish, coordinate, and integrate clinical medicine or medicine subspecialty research protocols at Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital. The incumbent will also be expected to participate on a national level in cooperative research planning. The incumbent will be expected to establish an independent investigative program, preferably focusing on medicine subspecialty research or a closely related field. A percentage of protected time for faculty member’s research, space and scholarly activity/productivity will be allocated at _____%. The incumbent will serve as a liaison between the Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Providence Veterans Administration Medical Center, Women & Infants Hospital, Brown Medicine, Inc. and the various programs of Brown University and its affiliated hospitals.

Patient CareThe incumbent will be expected to spend time on the clinicalservice and to see patients in the Department of Medicine outpatient unit.

Service ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will be expected to actively participate in all activities of the Department of Medicine and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements include: board certified in Internal Medicine, strong clinical background in a medicine subspecialty, excellence in patient care and teaching, and a commitment to scholarly participation in one of the Department of Medicine subspecialty research programs of The Warren Alpert Medical School. An MD or MD/PhD with a distinguished national record in a Medicine subspecialty as demonstrated by research publications, involvement and demonstrated leadership in academic societies at a national level is highly desirable. Furthermore, a distinguished record and accomplishment in scholarship, teaching, research, and clinical service is highly desirable. Progressive operational and financial management and leadership experience, preferably in an academic medical center setting, is highly desirable. It is preferred that the candidate’s research experience focus on a Medicine subspecialty or a closely related field.
