Summary

The Chair of Anesthesiology serves as the senior physician leader for anesthesia services across CHRISTUS Children's Hospital in San Antonio. The Chair is responsible for establishing the strategic vision, clinical excellence standards, operational performance, physician engagement, quality outcomes, education, and growth of the Department of Anesthesiology.

This position provides executive leadership for all anesthesia programs, including pediatric anesthesiology, obstetric anesthesiology, cardiac anesthesiology, perioperative services, procedural sedation services, and future anesthesia subspecialty programs. The Chair maintains active clinical practice while serving as the principal physician representative for anesthesia services with hospital leadership, medical staff, and the community.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
• Board Certification in Anesthesiology
• Fellowship training in Pediatric Anesthesiology, Cardiac Anesthesiology, Obstetric Anesthesiology, or another relevant subspecialty
• Unrestricted License issued by Texas Medical Board
• Minimum of ten (10) years' clinical anesthesiology experience
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive physician leadership experience
• Demonstrated success in physician leadership, quality improvement, and departmental management

Preferred

• Experience within a children's hospital, academic medical center, or large tertiary healthcare system
• Advanced leadership training (MBA, MHA, MMM, CPE, Physician Leadership Institute, or equivalent)
