Job Description


The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for leading the financial strategy, governance, and performance of the company. The role oversees financial planning, project finance management, treasury, risk management, and compliance while supporting business growth and operational efficiency in a project-driven construction environment.
The CFO will partner closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to drive sustainable growth, strengthen financial discipline across projects, and ensure robust financial controls across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute the company's financial strategy aligned with business growth objectives.

  • Provide strategic financial insights to support major business decisions, investments, and expansion initiatives.

  • Act as a key advisor to the CEO and Board on financial performance, risks, and opportunities.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling processes across the organisation.

  • Monitor financial performance against targets and identify areas for improvement.

  • Provide detailed financial analysis to support project bids, cost management, and profitability optimisation.

Project Finance & Cost Control

  • Oversee financial management of construction projects including project budgeting, cash flow forecasting, cost tracking, and margin analysis.

  • Ensure strong financial governance across project lifecycle including tendering, contract management, and project execution.

  • Work closely with project management teams to monitor project profitability and cost controls.

Treasury & Cash Flow Management

  • Manage company cash flow, working capital, and funding requirements for large-scale projects.

  • Oversee banking relationships, credit facilities, and financing arrangements including project financing where applicable.

  • Ensure adequate liquidity and financial stability to support ongoing operations and project commitments.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS).

  • Oversee statutory reporting, tax compliance, and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage external audits and liaise with auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies.

Risk Management & Governance

  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial governance frameworks.

  • Identify financial risks related to project execution, contracts, and market conditions.

  • Implement policies and systems to mitigate financial and operational risks.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and develop the finance team including accounting, treasury, and financial planning functions.

  • Strengthen financial capabilities across the organisation through systems, processes, and people development.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and financial discipline.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong commercial and strategic mindset.

  • Deep understanding of construction financial management and project cost structures.

  • Excellent financial modelling and analytical capabilities.

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.

  • High integrity and strong governance orientation.


Requirements


Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.

  • Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, ICAEW, or equivalent preferred.

  • Minimum 12–15 years of progressive finance leadership experience, preferably within construction, engineering, infrastructure, or project-based industries.

  • Proven experience managing project accounting and cost management in large-scale construction projects.

  • Experience in treasury, project financing, and banking relationships is highly advantageous.

  • Prior experience working with senior leadership and board stakeholders.
