Job Description

The Lead CFD & Process Safety Consultant will successfully deliver projects for clients as a member of project teams within a market program. This includes supporting the project manager by leading teams initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling deliver high-impact technical projects across Brazil and global markets, supporting clients in improving the safety, reliability, and resilience of their assets and operations. We work across CAPEX and OPEX projects, supporting customers in upstream, midstream, downstream, and emerging sectors such as BESS, CCS, and hydrogen doing advanced technical analysis, practical risk-based engineering judgment, direct client engagement and leadership in project delivery.

What You Will Do:

The Lead manages small teams to work on project tasks under the supervision of a project manager to ensure quality services are delivered on schedule and within the available budget to meet customer requirements.

  • Assist the project manager with defining and sequencing project tasks, estimating task duration, and developing a project schedule as part of developing a project management plan.
  • Fire and explosion modelling.
  • Gas detector allocation.
  • Flame detector allocation.
  • Exhaust and ventilation dispersion.
  • Smoke and gas dispersion.
  • Flare radiation analysis.
  • Helideck turbulence studies.
  • Process safety and risk studies such as HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, Bow-Tie, Safety Case, and EERA.
  • Review project management plans to understand the scope, schedule, and assigned work authorization.
  • Planning and scheduling client meetings
  • Lead client and tasks-team meetings
  • Lead small task teams with the execution of project tasks.
  • Assist with research and data analysis, including but not limited to assisting with conducting customer or stakeholder analyses.
  • Prepare written documents, reports, and presentations.
  • Develop conclusions and recommendations, write reports, and assist with client presentations.
  • Give oral presentations to clients.
  • Tracking and reporting hours spent executing projects.
  • Work with individuals at all levels, provide input to reports and other deliverables, execute multiple assignments, meet agreed deadlines, and adjust to changing client demands.
  • Performing quality assurance on project deliverables
  • Develop relationships with existing customers to facilitate the development of new business.
  • Identify new business opportunities with existing customers for current and/or additional services.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

  • 2-4 years of professional experience is the minimum required.
  • Degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong experience in advanced CFD modelling applied to risk and safety
  • Experience in analyses related to fire, explosion, dispersion, and detection studies
  • Fluent Portuguese and English
  • Strong report writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver high-quality technical work in a consulting environment

  • Ansys Fluent
  • Ansys CFX
  • M.Sc. or postgraduate qualification in Safety Engineering, Process Safety, or related field
  • Experience in QRA, vulnerability analysis, PHAST, and/or SAFETI
  • Knowledge of Human Factors, including:
    • Human Reliability Analysis (HRA)
    • Human Factors Engineering (HFE)
  • Familiarity with Petro-HRA
  • Familiarity with Brazilian regulations and industry requirements, including Petrobras guidelines, ANP requirements, and applicable NRs
  • Experience across upstream, downstream, and midstream
  • Knowledge of Python, VBA, or other programming/automation tools
  • Interest in digitalization and technical innovation
  • Spanish language skills desirable

Reporting Relationships:

Could report to the Project Manager or Program Manager or a more senior level Consultant.
