We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Lambeth to assist with the appointment of a CESSATION OF DUTY OFFICER, on a 3-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £22.73 - £29.96 per hour

We are seeking experienced Homelessness Officers to join the newly established Cessation of Duty Team. This role will play a key part in reducing the use of temporary accommodation by ensuring homelessness duties are ended lawfully, timely, and robustly in accordance with housing legislation. You will manage a caseload of homelessness applications, work directly with residents, and collaborate with internal and external partners to achieve sustainable housing outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage homelessness cases through to the lawful conclusion of duties under the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Review evidence, case histories, and Personal Housing Plans (PHPs) to determine whether duties can be ended.
  • Prepare statutory notifications and ensure decisions are legally compliant, timely, and well-reasoned.
  • Update and maintain accurate Personal Housing Plans.
  • Explain decisions, rights, and housing options clearly and sensitively to residents.

Qualifications:

  • Professional knowledge and experience equivalent to a Level 4/5 qualification.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).

Essentials:

  • Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, particularly Housing Act duties under Sections 188 and 193.
  • Experience managing a caseload within a homelessness, housing, advice, or statutory service.
  • Experience making legally sound decisions and applying housing legislation.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and defensible written decisions and statutory notifications.
  • Experience working directly with vulnerable residents and managing sensitive situations.

  • You should have right to work in U.K
  • This role requires a Basic DBS
