Manufacturing Quality Control work includes: Auditing, monitoring, and determining the quality of manufacturing processes and/or outputs against defined internal and regulatory standards. Testing random samples of finished goods. Reporting manufacturing process deviations and defects in finished goods and liaising with Quality Assurance to troubleshoot and resolve problems An Experienced Professional (P2) applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. May require the following proficiency: Works independently with general supervision. Problems faced are difficult but typically not complex. May influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspections Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of welds on various projects, components, and structures.

  • Compliance: Verify that welding procedures and techniques meet specified codes and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API).

  • Documentation: Review weld maps, procedures, and related documentation; maintain detailed inspection reports and records for traceability and audit purposes.

  • NDT Coordination: Perform or coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) such as magnetic particle (MT), dye penetrant (PT), and ultrasonic (UT) testing.

  • Welder Support: Provide technical assistance and guidance to welders and production teams regarding welding procedures and quality issues.

  • Corrective Action: Identify, document, and track non-conformances (weld defects) and recommend corrective actions to resolve issues.

  • Safety Adherence: Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA) during inspections.

Required Qualifications

  • Certification: Current Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) credential through the American Welding Society (AWS) or equivalent (e.g., CSWIP).

  • Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in welding inspection, preferably in manufacturing, construction, or shipbuilding environments.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW) and structural steel welding codes.

  • Blueprints: Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and WPS/PQR documents.

  • Equipment: Proficiency in using inspection tools such as weld gauges, micrometers, and calipers.
