Certified Tumor Registrar
The Tumor Registrar will maintain an accredited cancer program as set forth by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. The Registrar abstracts medical record data into the Cancer Registry data baseas required Standard for Oncology Registry Entry (STORE) coding instructions: American Joint Committee on Cancer ( AJCC) cancer staging manual, International Classification of Diseases for Oncology ( ICD-0) data collection of primary central nervous system tumors, and the data collection of primary central nervous system tumors- Abstracting and coding for the Hematopoietic diseases.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Perform case finding activities, abstract eligible cases, and perform follow-up activities.
Creates special reports as requested
Attend educational seminars, etc., in order to maintain certification status.
Use appropriate tools to identify and abstract cases.
Resolves edit discrepancies as identified by Cancer Registry data basevalidation checks.
Demonstrates competence in cases abstraction.
Reviews EMRfor medical information from other hospital sources, other health care facilities, physician practices, cancer registries, and other resources as needed to compile a complete abstract.
Abstracts all required data elements and supportive text information into the cancer registry data base, using coding and abstracting standards as required by the CoCand the Massachusetts State Cancer Registry.
Qualifications:
Minimum of five years of Cancer Registry abstracting cases and experience with NCDB call for data and RCRS reporting. Previous medical transcription and office experience, required. Associates Degree in Medical Information or other related health care field. Must hold Cancer Registry Certification (CTR). CRSTAR experience required.
Pay Range:
$27.00 - $36.34
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
