The Semmes Murphey Ambulatory Surgery Center is hiring!

Join our surgical team committed to compassionate patient care and cutting-edge techniques in a variety of surgeries including minimally invasive spine. Our Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) are responsible for assisting the surgical team before, during and after surgery by ensuring the proper care, use and placement of surgical instruments, as well as, assisting surgeons with instruments during surgery.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians’ preference cards adhering to aseptic technique when opening sterile packages and preparing for the procedure
  • Counts sponges, needles and instruments before and after operation
  • Assists team members in placing and positioning patients on table
  • Documents patient-care records and other forms according to facility policies and procedures
  • Accurately advises others responsible for care of patient about the patient’s status
  • Maintains and updates instrument cards and surgeons’ preference cards; assists in storing and stocking supplies

Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CREDENTIALS

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of surgical scrub technician course
  • Two (2) years’ operating room experience including scrubbing neurological surgeries
  • Experience with neurologic instrument care and processing, including biological and Bowie-Dick testing

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center (ASC) environment

  • Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret verbal orders and direction
  • Effective communication, both oral and written
  • Focused concentration with attention to detail
  • High level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Ability to make frequent judgments and respond to routine problems; Ability to make occasional judgments and respond to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills.
