Job Description

To assist in the delivery of aspects of health care in a clinical capacity based on the needs of the client and standards of operating room care.

Essential Responsibilities

Fiscal

  • Assist anesth esia, s urge ons, and asso ciates with procedural related tas ks
  • Monitor in str ument/equip ment for pr ocessing fo llowing manufacture/ AMMI/A ORN/AST sta ndards or pr actice and guidelines.
  • Carry out est ablished pro cedure s cl eaning, dec onta minating and ste rilization.
  • P rovide assis tance in the order of pr iority and r e-prio ritizes as designated by t he direct or or designee.
  • Alter own t ime schedule to adju st to changes in acti vity level of the d epart ment.
  • J udicious use of supplies.

​ Qual ity

  • Assist RN to obtain non- routine sup plies for indi vidualized care of clie nts without co mpro mise of quality or lo ss of client c are ti me.
  • Support clie nt care by re adily respo nding to and reporting on-going i nt er mittent and unexpected changes in delegated aspects of car e.
  • F acilit ate pl anning and adjusting pr ovisions of p atie nt care per request of a nesthe sia, surgeons and OR associa tes.
  • Consult and collab orates appropriate ly to re vise preference cards, in strument s ets and sup ply pull shee ts as techno logical adva nces influence changes in d eleg ated a spects of care.
  • Accept and delegate ta sks approp ri ately and pr omote tea mwork.

Patient Satisfaction

  • Collaborate with other health care providers regarding the plan of intraoperative cares, including instr ument/supply set up prior to case.
  • Respond quickly and is able to work under stress related to multi ple requests for supplies/instru ments.
  • Maintain professional environ ment and keep noise to a minimum at all ti mes
  • Exe mplify excellent guest relations to patients, visitors, and physicians and co-workers.
  • Collaborate as a member of the operati ve team to enhance patient flow with changes to daily procedure schedules.

Patient Safety

  • Cleaning, deconta mination, and sterili zation of all instru ments, metal goods, and equipment used for patient care.
  • Plan and prepare for sur gical interve ntion based on individualized needs of each patient and respond to on-going, i nter mittent, and unexpected chan ges in delegated aspects of care.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and follow social media policy and adhere to standards of practice for instru ment and supply sterility.
  • Verify double check system to verify medications/supplies that are passed to the sterile field.
  • Maintain just culture and report any breaks in st erile field and acti vities surrounding patient care.

Professional Develop ment

  • Maintain workable kno wledge of anato my and instru ments/equip ment.
  • Share knowledge and skills with colleagues and others inc luding orientation and cross-training.
  • De monstrate leadership and be a res ource for peer, prece pts students and new e mployee when needed.
  • Identify professional needs and coll aborates with manage ment for learning opportunities for self and for the unit.
  • Participate in development and i mple mentation of depart mental goals and attend product practice change in-services.

Custo mer Service

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with all custo mers, focusing on physicians, provider practice s, anesthesia and public.
  • Provide a professional and quiet patient environ ment.
  • Practice AIDET (Acknowledge, Identi fy, Duration, Explanation, Thank You)
  • Pro mote commi tment to co-workers, view all staff as part of an equal team and be app roachable at all ti mes, and maintain interde part mental relati onships
  • Be flexible with assign ments, staff ing needs and assigned shifts.

Mandatory Licensure/Certifications:

(CST) Currently certified by The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or (LPN) Curr ently licen sed by the In di ana Sta te Board of Nurses' Registration and Nursing Education as a Registered Nurse.
