Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies for procedures.
  • Set up the operating room, including sterile drapes, solutions, and instrumentation.
  • Ensure compliance with Surgical Center policies, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Perform pre-operative preparation of patients, including skin preparation and positioning.
  • Assemble, inspect, and adjust sterile and non-sterile equipment to ensure proper function.
  • Assist with patient transport to the operating room and proper positioning on the surgical table.
  • Apply sterile draping and maintain the sterile field throughout the procedure.
  • Monitor patient information, verify charts, and assist the surgical team with gowning and gloving.
  • Pass instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants.
  • Assist with surgical counts (sponges, needles, instruments, and supplies).
  • Hold retractors, cut sutures, and support the surgical team as directed.
  • Prepare, label, and properly handle specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Operate sterilizers, suction devices, surgical lights, and other diagnostic equipment as needed.
  • Assist with patient transfer to the recovery area post-procedure.
  • Clean, disinfect, and restock the operating room following surgery.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan.
  • Understanding of growth and developmental principles and the ability to assess patient needs accordingly.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical procedures.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to follow established channels of communication.
  • Ability to maintain professional and collaborative relationships with patients, physicians, and healthcare team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
