
Works under indirect supervision of the Resource Technician performing daily activities of the Sterile Processing Department, which include all aspects of the decontamination, assembly of sets, sterilization processes, and specialty cart restocking (CPR carts, Disaster Carts, Case Carts and Specialty carts). Ensures functions are performed with conscious regard to the procedures while interacting professionally with other departments within the system. The CSPDT must have knowledge of: surgical instrumentation in regards to identification, cleaning, inspecting, testing, packaging and sterilization, operation of mechanical equipment for instrument cleaning and sterilization, infection control practices and preventative measures and regulatory agencies the govern sterile processing practices.
High School diploma or equivalent and one to two years of previous work-related experience are required. Provisional certification is accepted, valid for up to 30 days or once 400 hours of hands-on experience are fulfilled. Certification from a NJDOH-recognized body such as CSPDT/HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) is required. Completion and passing grade in an SPD training course or school are acceptable in lieu of one to two years of job experience. Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication, are necessary for the role.
