GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Boys' School is seeking a Physical Education Teacher to inspire and educate youth ages 12–21 in a structured, supportive learning environment. More than teaching sports or fitness, you'll help students develop healthy habits, build confidence, strengthen teamwork, and gain lifelong skills that contribute to their overall success. You'll create engaging lessons aligned with Wyoming Content and Performance Standards while working alongside educators, counselors, and treatment staff to support each student's academic, physical, and personal growth. - Plan, develop, and deliver engaging Physical Education and Health instruction aligned with Wyoming Content and Performance Standards.
- Assess student learning, monitor progress, and adapt instruction to meet individual educational and developmental needs.
- Create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment that promotes participation, accountability, and healthy lifestyles.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, treatment staff, and security personnel to support student success and consistent behavioral expectations.
- Maintain accurate student records, assessments, and required educational documentation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to educational, treatment, and facility-wide initiatives.
- Support students with diverse learning needs by implementing appropriate instructional strategies and accommodations.
- Model positive behavior, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy decision-making.
- Assist with resident transportation and occasional dormitory support duties as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable educational standards, facility policies, and state and federal regulations.

PREFERENCES:
Fully accredited by Cognia, the Wyoming Boys' School maintains high standards of educational excellence and institutional quality. Qualified candidates must be Wyoming-certified or willing to obtain Wyoming certification and hold a valid Teaching Certificate with endorsements in K–12 Physical Education and K–12 Health.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of instructional planning that supports student engagement and lifelong healthy habits.
- Knowledge of effective classroom management and strategies for teaching students with diverse learning needs.
- Knowledge of Physical Education and Health curriculum development, instruction, and assessment.
- Knowledge of health, fitness, movement, sports, and wellness concepts.
- Knowledge of student assessment practices used to monitor progress and improve learning outcomes.
- Proficiency with educational technology and computer applications used for instruction and recordkeeping.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, risk management, and best practices for physical education activities.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures and institutional safety practices.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team while maintaining professionalism and positive student relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Education)
Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Possession of or proof of ability to secure a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Certificate.
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work (typically in Education or Instruction)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Possession of or proof of ability to secure a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Certificate.
