The Certified Phlebotomy Tech (CPT) 1 or 2/Lab Assistant performs various duties as needed, to ensure the smooth flow of patients, specimens and information to and from the Laboratory. This position may work in various locations throughout Marshall Medical Center, assisting with Inpatient, Outpatient, and/or Emergency in order to meet the needs of the department. Performs specific duties such as venipuncture, order entry, specimen processing, legal blood draws and chain of custody drug screening procedures, in addition, CPT 2’s will perform Arterial Blood Gas collections. The CPT 1 or 2/Lab Assistant will assist in training new lab personnel, externs and students while maintaining good public relations by answering phones in a cordial and helpful manner. Interacts with patients in a friendly and professional manner and ensures careful handling of infectious materials to protect all personnel.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) 1 or 2 certification from State of California required.
HS diploma or equivalent experience or education with emphasis on science courses required.
Knowledge/Skills:
Previous laboratory experience and/or graduation from medical/lab assistant school required.
Knowledge of phlebotomy, specimen processing, legal blood draws and chain of custody required.
Familiarity with Medical Terminology, computers and basic typing skills required.
