$19.15 - $34.47

Holidays - No More Than Every Third Holiday, Sunday through Saturday, Weekends - Every Fourth Weekend

7:00 am to 3:30pm, 10am - 6:30pm and occasional 1:30pm to 10 pm

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, this position is responsible for the preparation, dispensing, and delivery of medications for patients. Completes other tasks associated with drug distribution processes, automated dispensing systems, packaging, IV systems, training, and scheduling.

Major Responsibilities

  • Answers telephone calls and triages requests from customers to the pharmacist staff.
  • Triages window requests from customers.
  • Delivers medications to the patient care areas and picks up copies of physician orders, return of medications, etc. Completes scheduled rounds on patient care areas.
  • Assists with inventory management tasks which includes, but is not limited to, ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and materials, ordering, receiving and storing non-controlled medications from the wholesaler on a daily basis, storing medications in designated areas in the central pharmacy, IV room and anesthesia prep area, ensuring bin labels are visible and clear, segregating medications to appropriate storage bins, etc., and checking for expiration dating on medications on a consistent basis to assure medications do not leave pharmacy with short dating.
  • Accurately packages unit dose medications with appropriate labeling information as outlined in policy and procedures to support Pharmacy distribution process including Pre-packing bulk medications and compounding ointments, creams, oral solutions.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

  • High School diploma.
  • Licensed as a Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.

Preferred:

  • National Pharmacy Technician certification.

Experience/Skill:

Required:

  • Baseline understanding of automated dispensing systems, technology and IV room processes.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to comply with all department and hospital policy and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively interact and problem solve with other team members of the pharmacy department.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Good interpersonal skills, especially related to health care colleagues.
  • Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English.

Preferred

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a hospital pharmacy.
