Work Shift
Performs all aspects and modalities of Respiratory Care to Health System patients per department guidelines. Responds to resuscitation situations and other respiratory emergencies when needed. Maintains and completes appropriate documentation in patients’ charts and departmental records. Performs as charge therapist when necessary.
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Administer continuous oxygen and continuous bland aerosol therapy per department guidelines
Performs intermittent therapy and diagnostic procedures per department guidelines
Access patient medication from the Medication Security Area to implement respiratory care per hospital and departmental policies and procedures
Initiate and maintain mechanical ventilation and completes appropriate documentation
Provide airway management, ventilation, and closed chest compression as necessary during emergency resuscitation. Perform intubation after receiving approval.
Initiate and maintain monitoring equipment
Perform as charge therapists in the absence of a supervisor
Knowledgeable in the use of equipment and treatment modalities for patients of all ages
Charge all services provided inclusive of use of BCX system
Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
CRT credentials or Provisional License required
Graduate of a COARC approved Respiratory Care Program
Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (CRT)
Licensed by the NCRCB
BCLS certified by the American Heart Association
Must obtain RRT credentials within 36 months of hire date to maintain employment

Must have an understanding of medical terminology and current respiratory care modalities
Must have the ability to react calmly and maintain composure in stressful situations and when dealing with co-workers, patients, and hospital guests
Knowledgeable of the psychosocial and physiological development and spiritual needs of infants, children, adolescents, and all adult age groups (per Erickson’s Model) in order to provide appropriate care and intervention, either personally or though staff
Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
Visual acuity for observation of patients
Long periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting
Manual dexterity to operate and assemble equipment
Ability to position and move patients
Ability to push heavy equipment to patients’ bedsides
May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
