Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

Department: Therapy

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Niles, MI

Reporting To: Lisa Sutton

Compensation: $29.00 - $34.00 / hour

Schedule Full-time 40 hours per week | Monday - Friday | 8am - 4:30pm
Department: PACE of Southwest Michigan | Niles, MI
This position will be working in our Day Center and also handle home visits to participant homes in the service area.

What You’ll Do:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in enriching the lives of participants through compassionate, hands-on care in both the PACE day center and participants’ homes. Working closely with the interdisciplinary team, the COTA supports therapy services, promotes independence and wellness, and helps create meaningful experiences for older adults through engaging day center activities and personalized home visits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in performing treatment as developed and directed by the Occupational Therapist (OT).
  • Maintains and completes treatment documentation, department records and reports.
  • Prepares, cleans, and maintains the treatment area and equipment according to departmental standards.
  • Attends to personal needs of participants during treatment sessions according to departmental policy and professional standards.
  • Assist in personal care in the day center.
  • Sets up and assists therapy with daily living/functional activities and therapeutic activities as determined by the OT.
  • Reports changes in the participant’s condition to the pertinent Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) member.
  • Active participation in Quality Improvement Process (QIP).
  • Supports OT with the ordering/tracking of participant DME’s.
  • Completes home visits when directed.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Active and unencumbered Occupational Therapy Assistant certification to practice in the State of Michigan.
  • One (1) year of experience in a clinical setting, required.
  • One (1) year working with the frail and elderly population, required.
  • CPR certification.
  • Position requires the ability to lift and move objects weighting up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Effective skills in ADL assessment and chronic disease management for frail older adults.
