Job Purpose & Position Overview
The certified nursing assistant provides basic personal care, obtains vital sign measurements and promotes quality healthcare delivery for patients admitted to the Emergency department. In addition, the certified nursing assistant may also assist in screening patients in the Outpatient department dependent on patient care requirements and workload responsibilities. The certified nursing assistant may also assist in the Inpatient department.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
• Provides or assists patients with personal hygiene
• Obtains vital sign measurements
• Obtains Intake/Output
• Perform and document controls for point-of-care laboratory testing in accordance with regulatory compliance. Use of glucometer to obtain blood glucose
• Perform Adult and Pediatric 12 Lead EKGs.
• Assists with activities of daily living
• Assists with ambulation and/or patient transfers
• Collects specimens for laboratory testing
• Provides assistance with one-to-one visual observation of patients at risk for fall and/or Suicide Ideation
• Stock medical supply items
• Order patient specific supplies as needed per policy and procedure.
• Monitor outdates of supplies to ensure integrity.
• Assists with proper cleaning of medical equipment
• Documents patient encounter in Electronic Health Record. Collect and document patient care information timely, accurately, and appropriately.
• Responds to patient requests promptly
• Reports abnormal vital signs to Registered Nurse
• Recognizes gross change in patient condition and reports to Registered Nurse promptly
• Maintains clean work environment
• Complies with Infection Control practices
• Demonstrates excellent customer service
• Administer care to patients as delegated and assigned by licensed nursing personnel.
• Demonstrate respect for patient rights and ensure confidentiality.
• Coordinate phone calls for Emergency Department Providers.
• Facilitate activation of established Response Teams
• Performs clerical duties
• May assist with bedside registration of patients entering the Emergency Department.
• Develop personal educational objectives and participate in growth opportunities to assure continued adherence to standards and provision of quality patient care.
• Demonstrate accountability and responsibility to seek opportunities for own learning needs.
• Support and assist with the orientation of new personnel as assigned.
• Demonstrate knowledge of unit operations.
• Participate in performance improvement activities.
• Follow policies/procedures/regulatory requirements and perform other work assignments.
• Comply with all departmental and organizational policies and procedures in addition to regulatory requirements (such as OSHA, CMS, Joint Commission, etc.) and participate in corporate/departmental safety and quality activities.
• Perform other work assignments as required within scope and care limits.
Qualifications/Skills:
• High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
• Currently licensed as a Nursing Assistant.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
Knowledge Requirements:
• Possesses the knowledge, skills and ability to observe the patients’ physical and emotional response to care
• Ability to communicate ad interact with all members of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team
Physical Requirements:
• Normal to heavy work which includes the ability to lift up to 20-50 lbs. Lifting and/or transferring of patients may involve heavy lifting.
• Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office or medical equipment.
• Manual dexterity with cooperatively free range of motion of all extremities including neck, fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, waist, legs, hips, knee joints, ankles, and feet is required.
• Fine motor skills required.
Language Requirements:
• Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
• Must demonstrate professional verbal and written communications skills.
Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:
• All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
