The comprehensive healthcare system includes a 390-bed academic medical center, a large outpatient Clinic & Specialty Center, and a network of clinics in the North Loop, Whittier, and East Lake Street neighborhoods of Minneapolis, and in the suburban communities of Brooklyn Park, Golden Valley, Richfield, and St. Anthony Village. We currently have an opportunity for a 0.7 FTE (56 hours per pay period) Certified Nurse Midwife to join our service. This position is comprised of both outpatient and inpatient work and is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package

Hennepin Healthcare’s Nurse-Midwife Service was the first hospital-based midwife service in Minnesota and has been welcoming babies and providing comprehensive midwifery care for more than 55 years!Nurse-Midwives attend births and care for inpatients in the HCMC Birth Center which includes the Nurse-Midwife, Labor and Delivery and Postpartum Units. We practice full-scope midwifery in a supportive, collaborative environment. We support people throughout their pregnancies and births, offering high-risk pregnancy supervision, a staff doula service, waterbirth, Nitrous Oxide for labor anesthesia, and co-management of twin gestations. In addition to maternity care, we provide well-person care including comprehensive contraceptive management.

Clinical expectations for this job include time covering hospital shifts in the HCMC Birth Center ("on call"), outpatient clinic sessions at 2-3 of our six outpatient clinics, and rounding coverage in the inpatient setting. Staff CNMs work Day and Night Call shifts weekly, daytime clinic sessions Monday through Friday, and work 1 out of every 4 weekends. Holiday coverage is shared among team members. Call shifts run from 0630-1830 and 1830-0630.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Master’s or Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from an accredited nurse midwifery program
  • Active APRN licensure in the state of Minnesota
  • Board Certification through AMCB
  • Manufacturer training in Nexplanon insertion/removal and IUD insertion/removal experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some type of Bilingual language proficiency (Spanish or Somali preferred)
  • 1-2 years of clinical experience as a full-scope CNM
  • Comfort and experience with waterbirths
