Job Description

Perform routine care, provide for the comfort of the patient, and communicate according to protocol, the CNA acts as a key link in the healthcare team.

Reports to: Director, Inpatient Services and RN Supervisor

Hourly Rate: $20.50 - $30.43 (hourly rate does not include overtime or bonuses which are not guaranteed)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Organize and provide basic nursing care for patients and their families.
  • Perform various service duties and routine technical tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of procedures, policies, standards of care. Ability to follow directions, established procedures and protocols.
  • Provide assistance to patients with activities of daily living (ADL’s) for which they need help, such as bathing, combing hair, oral hygiene, shaving, putting on stockings and/or slippers, dressing, ambulation and toileting.
  • Helping patients with equipment for their treatment such as anti-embolic stockings, bladder scanner, intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) devices, CPM’s, Incentive spirometers, etc.
  • Taking of vitals (blood pressure, pulse, temperature and respiration). Frequency of vital signs can range from three times per day to more often consult PCU vital sign policy for details.
  • Input and Output: Measuring a patient’s input and output may be a critical part of their daily assessment and treatment. One may be required to observe and record daily I&O’s.
  • Assist in helping patients move, transfer from bed to chair, or transporting to other departments following specific protocols to avoid injury.
  • Providing of emotional support to patient and family
  • Documentation of care: Vital signs, interventions, I&O’s and relevant changes in the patient’s condition, etc.
  • Prepare patients' rooms, and patient beds for patient admission or returning patient. Ensure room is supplied per protocol.
  • Keeps bed clean and dry, may be required to change bedding while occupied.
  • Maintains room and patient care area in a clean, neat, and comfortable manner, removing supplies and equipment not in use, placing furnishings and equipment out of the path to provide a safe, neatly organized area.
  • Keep patient hydrated unless under fluid restrictions, ensure that the patient always has fresh water. It is important to develop a routine where one knows if the patient is drinking or not, how much and to report to RN if inadequate amounts of water are being consumed. It is important to offer a patient a drink when at the bedside
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Certification, Licensure: Certified Nursing Assistant in state of Colorado, Current CPR certification

Experience, Training, Knowledge:

  • One (1) year inpatient experience preferred, ability to perform simple mathematical calculations
  • Ability to read, write and speak English – this is for the purpose of transcribing and communicating approved providers orders at a level generally acquired via a high school education

Physical Requirements:

Requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to fifty (50) pounds; stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; standing and walking more than five (5) hours per day; visual acuity in order to correctly distinguish skin tone variations, evidence of IV infiltration, infection, also to read telemetry, blood pressure gauges, etc.; audio acuity, in order to correctly distinguish various body sounds, i.e. respiration’s, heart sounds, bowel sounds, also to discern sounds made by various types of machinery or equipment which would indicate dangerous or improper operation.

Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures:

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

ASH IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS REQUIREMENTS – Aligns with CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel

  • Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
  • Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
  • Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization
  • Tuberculosis Screening - Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
