Job Description

Job Title: Certified Nurse Aide

Department: Oncology

Location: Canton - Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, NY

Hours Per Week: full time, 40 scheduled weekly hours

Schedule: 7.5 hour shift, 8:30a - 4:30p

SUMMARY:

The Certified Nurse Aid works under the direct supervision of licensed nursing staff to provide direct patient care in accordance with established hospital policies, procedures and protocols.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs and documents direct comprehensive, family and patient centered care under the direct supervision of licensed nursing staff.
  • Provides world class customer service to patients and families.
  • Reports patient conditions directly to licensed nursing staff to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintains a safe and clean patient and family centered environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current, unrestricted New York State Nurse Aid Certification or an unofficial transcript showing successful completion with a letter grade of B or better of a Nursing 101 course from an accredited nursing school program where activities of daily living are taught as well as the syllabus of the course provided as evidence
  • BLS required
  • The Certified Nurse Aid is required to stay enrolled in the nursing school program while employed as a nurse aid if he or she is a not certified. If the Certified Nurse Aid ceases to be a student in the nursing school program prior to graduation, the nurse aid will not be permitted to continue working until he or she becomes certified as a Certified Nurse Aid in New York State. The time employee has six months to become certified or will be considered ineligible for employment and terminated.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.

PAY RANGE:

$19.20 - $28.97

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
