Swain Community Hospital's Med-Surg unit is seeking a compassionate and dependable Med/Surg CNA to join a collaborative, patient-centered team on a 17-bed unit. The unit maintains a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6 and staffs 1–2 CNAs per shift, fostering a supportive care environment.
Med/Surg CNA’s provide direct care to a diverse population including inpatients, observation patients, and swing bed patients such as post-acute deconditioned individuals, orthopedic recovery patients, those requiring wound care, and patients receiving extended-duration IV therapies. This role involves assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), supporting out-of-bed mobility and safe transfers, and working closely with nursing staff as well as Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), and Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) to promote patient recovery and independence.
How you'll contribute
A Med/Surg CNA who excels in this role:
Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possibly taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including but not limited to bathing, grooming, eating, and ambulation.
Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
Assists with keeping patient rooms and common areas stocked, clean and orderly.

What we're looking for
Applicants should have a current listing as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with the state of North Carolina Division of Facility Services and a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Additional requirements include:
Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS).
Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Licenses: Current Listing as a Certified Nursing Assistant with the state of North Carolina Division of Facility Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect or misappropriation of property in a facility that provides Nursing Care.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Telemetry Tech ONLY: Completion of a basic telemetry monitoring course and/or completion of competency training for basic arrhythmia interpretation may be required as determined by the department director.
Unit Secretary ONLY: Completion of training in basic unit secretary tasks (i.e., transcription of physician order, computer data entry, etc).
