Job Description

The Certified Medical Assistant, Procedures is a multi-skilled healthcare professional who works collaboratively with physicians and clinical staff to provide high-quality patient care. The Certified Medical Assistant, Procedures performs both administrative and clinical duties to support efficient, cost-effective care, optimize patient outcomes, and improve overall quality of life.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Helps patients by providing information, services, and assistance.
  • Maintains medical supplies inventory and performing preventive maintenance to keep medical equipment operating.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit
  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; and reporting patient history summary.
  • Saves doctors’ time by helping with office procedures.
  • Procedures: TOV, SP tube change, foley change, I&O catheter, bladder irrigation, KUB Xray, bladder scans, PTNS
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeps patient information confidential.
  • Counsels patients by transmitting physician orders and questions about surgery.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
  • Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards; facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Carries out clinical duties as outlined in specific job description for CMA, RMA, CST, LPN, or RN, as applicable.
  • Collect and prepare lab specimens as needed
  • Ensure consents have been signed prior to procedure by both the physician and patient
  • Draw up and/or administer injections as ordered by provider
  • Prepare dressings and assist with wound care
  • Escorts patient to secretaries for discharge instructions and check out
  • Prepare pathology form, cup collection labels, log and record per policy
  • Document patient communications and treatments accurately and appropriately
  • Manage KPI reports including duplicate medication and medical reconciliation
  • Maintain rooms by proper turnover procedures, replenishing of inventory, changing of linens and removal of waste
  • Confirm labs and imaging is available for provider prior to visit
  • Perform catheter changes, bladder scans, bladder irrigations, X-rays
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program
  • Current Medical Assisting Certification with no restrictions
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique, and clinic-based health and safety precautions
  • Ability to use and apply medical terminology accurately
  • Understanding of general clinical principles, methodologies, and outcome measures
  • Strong communication skills with patients and external parties in a courteous and professional manner
