JOB SUMMARY:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician/NP/PA/CMN and reports to the practice director/manager. The CMA must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care, communicate effectively with others, maintain an inventory of examination/procedure room supplies, work with the healthcare team to assure smooth and efficient patient flow, and organize the office environment to assure patient safety.

DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE:

The BMH Physician Group practices provide medical services in various specialties and offices including pediatrics, ob/gyn, cardiology, orthopedics, internal medicine, family practice, urology and general surgery. The practices are staffed by physicians and other licensed providers who are supported by clinical staff (LPNs or certified medical assistants) and clerical staff. Hours vary by practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

• Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during clinical procedures.
• Obtain and document patient vital signs, medical histories, medications, and chief complaints.
• Perform clinical procedures within the scope of certification and organizational policies, including specimen collection, injections, point-of-care testing, and electrocardiograms (EKGs), as appropriate.
• Collect, label, and process laboratory specimens while following established safety and infection prevention protocols.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete patient documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Coordinate patient care activities, including scheduling appointments, referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up care.
• Provide patient education regarding medications, treatments, procedures, and preventive health measures as directed by the provider.
• Respond to patient inquiries and communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain examination and treatment rooms, ensuring appropriate supplies and equipment are available.
• Perform medication reconciliation and support prescription refill processes in accordance with organizational policies and provider direction.
• Adhere to infection prevention, safety, confidentiality, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with quality improvement initiatives and support efficient clinic operations through teamwork and effective communication.
• Participate in ongoing education and maintain required certifications and competencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and organizational objectives.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

• High school graduate
• Medical assistant training program or EMS training, or nursing assistant training strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE/SKILL SETS:

• Minimum two years within the last 5 years of experience in doctor’s office setting preferred

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION(S):

• Certified Medical Assistant required.
• CPR Certification within 3 months of hire required.

OSHA Category I:

• Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues require use of techniques of Universal Precautions as evidenced with blood borne pathogens standards.

In compliance with Vermont Act 155, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital provides the compensation range for this position in good faith. The listed range represents the pay scale reasonably expected for a successful candidate based on factors such as relevant experience, education, internal equity, and market competitiveness. Final compensation will be determined during the hiring process.
