Rotation: Rotating Weekends & Holidays
Employment Type: Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week
Pay Range: $29.30–$34.47 per hour
Sign-On Bonus: Up to $20,000

We are seeking a skilled Certified Histology Technician
to join a Pathology Laboratory team in Peoria, Illinois.

This position is responsible for preparing and staining tissue specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a Pathologist. The Histology Technician performs high-complexity and non-routine procedures requiring independent technical assessment, strong analytical skills, and detailed knowledge of histological processes.

This role also supports laboratory quality improvement, new equipment validation, technical education, and student clinical training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and stain tissue specimens for microscopic examination
  • Perform high-complexity and non-routine histology procedures
  • Evaluate assay performance and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Operate and support specialized histological assays
  • Ensure high-quality slides and stains for diagnostic review
  • Assist with the optimization and validation of new laboratory equipment
  • Support laboratory quality improvement initiatives
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance for routine histology procedures
  • Assist with training and education related to complex laboratory procedures
  • Participate in an onsite NAACLS-accredited School of Histology
  • Provide educational resources, lectures, or clinical training to Histology students
  • Maintain compliance with applicable laboratory and regulatory standards

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with a combination of 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of Biology and Chemistry OR grandfathered HT certification obtained before 2005
  • Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited HT or HTL program OR
    grandfathered HT certification obtained before 2005
  • Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience
  • HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certification OR eligibility to test for certification within 1 year of hire
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 1 year of full-time experience as a certified HT or HTL in a Histology Laboratory
  • Experience with high-complexity histology procedures
  • Knowledge of assay validation and laboratory equipment optimization
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical assessment skills
  • Ability to evaluate specimen preparation, slide quality, and staining results
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects

Compensation & Incentives

Pay Range: $29.30–$34.47 per hour

Sign-On Bonus: Up to $20,000 based on commitment length

Actual compensation is based on experience, skills, and internal equity.
