Short Description

The Critical Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients’ activities of daily living and supports the overall plan of care. This role involves direct communication with and support for the healthcare team, patients, and their families or significant others. The position requires maintaining high standards of professional ethics and contributing to the delivery of quality patient care within the organization.

  • Support patients’ activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, hygiene, mobility, transport) and follow standard precautions
  • Perform technical duties as directed by RN (phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care) and document appropriately.
  • Identify and communicate changes in patient status to RN and respond appropriately, maintaining safe patient practices
  • Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety
  • Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives, performance improvement activities, and assist in orienting new hires.
  • Complete annual hospital and unit-specific competencies by the required due date.
  • Consistently adhere to safety protocols and quality standards to ensure a safe environment and high-quality patient care
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Capacity to identify and communicate changes in patient status.

Kelemen 10 is a medical-surgical unit that cares for patients who have various needs and disease processes. Both North and South 10 have Telemetry capabilities for our patients. Each unit, North/South houses 36 patients and 2 hallway areas totaling a maximum of 76 patients.

South 10 has a 12-bed Intermediate Care Unit embedded within the 36-bed unit. The capacity of INCU is not usually more than 12 patients. INCU has critically care-trained RNs who support the patient's needs and care for ventilated patients.

South 10 also has 2 negative pressure isolation rooms with an anti-room that is used when needed for specific isolation needs.

We do multidisciplinary rounds Monday – Friday. This involves the patient in their care and allows the team members to collaborate with the patient to give them the best possible care and appropriate discharge to home or other facilities. We have a pharmacist who has an office on the unit to assist the RNs when needed to help avoid delay of care to any patient.

Experience Required

  • 0-2 years’ experience required.

Education Requirements

  • High School/GED required.
  • Successful completion of Patient Care Technician training and have an active Patient Care Technician Certification required.

License/Certification Requirements

  • AHA Basic Life Support certification required
  • Successful completion of one of these certifications; CPT, CPCT-A, ACMA

Special Requirements

Full-time nights, (36) hours a weekhours: 7p-7:30a with weekend/holidays rotation
