Pay Range:

Performs accurate, consistent, and complete abstracting of patient records. Conducts quality analysis of records to ensure compliance with CAP protocols, AJCC staging, and ACOS requirements. Queries database and creates reports on requested subsets of cancer patient data.

Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED General Studies; Associate Degree in Health Science or related field preferred
• Certified Cancer Registrar
• 2+ years Cancer Registry experience

Key Responsibilities:

• Review pathology reports and ensure accurate AJCC cancer staging documentation, CAP protocols, and physician-completed staging forms.
• Abstract and maintain cancer registry data using industry standards and coding systems, including AJCC, ICD-O, SEER, Collaborative Staging, and Facility Registry Data Standards.
• Submit accurate and timely cancer data to the National Cancer Database (NCDB) and State Tumor Registry, and prepare monthly departmental statistics.
• Perform monthly quality assurance audits for Radiation Oncology, chemotherapy, and diagnostic data to ensure data accuracy and compliance.
• Participate in multidisciplinary Tumor Board conferences, documenting discussions, treatment recommendations, and patient care decisions.
• Support American College of Surgeons (ACOS)/Commission on Cancer accreditation efforts by maintaining knowledge of standards and ensuring compliance.
• Assist with daily Cancer Registry operations and provide coverage in the absence of the Oncology Program Manager.
• Participate in community outreach, cancer education, screening events, and support programs.
• Promote a positive, collaborative work environment through teamwork, professionalism, and excellent communication.
• Comply with UNC Health standards related to safety, service, accountability, continuous improvement, HIPAA, corporate compliance, credential maintenance, and required education/training.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

• ICO-3 manual
• Collaborative Staging
• Multiple Primary Histology Manual and COC FORDS manual
• Working knowledge of ACOS requirements
• Knowledge of Cancer data software systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
• Strong investigative and analytical skills with detail orientation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to function as a self-paced individual
