Job Description

Rivers Health is seeking a full-time Certified Athletic Trainer to perform the following duties:

The Athletic Trainer attends scheduled practices and interscholastic

athletic contests as scheduled and duly notified, prevention, treatment,

rehabilitation/reconditioning of athletes and patients, documentation of

injuries, status, and progress.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.

The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

Secondary Schools

  1. Provide on-site injury care and evaluation as well as appropriate

acute care treatments, follow-up treatment and rehabilitation as

necessary for all injuries sustained by student athletes.

  1. Coordinate with team physician to provide:
  2. Coverage for Home Varsity Football games.
  3. On site visits to evaluate and treat athletes from all sports

when needed.

  1. Follow-up injury care in physician's office as needed.
  2. Reconditioning programs.
  3. Assistance on all matters pertaining to the health and well-

being of student athletes.

  1. Coordinate with paramedic team to define rolls when Emergency

Medical Services are activated.

  1. Determine when an athlete may safely return to full participation

after an injury (following a physician's authorization when needed).

  1. Maintain complete and accurate records of all athletic injuries and

treatments rendered.

  1. All medical records will be secured under locked conditions as

per FERPA regulations.

  1. All computer records will be password protected per FERPA

regulations.

  1. Notify parents or legal guardians and recommend appropriate medical

care when the Athletic Trainer deems a significant injury has

occurred.

  1. Supervise the selection, fitting and maintenance of protective

equipment.

  1. Provide assistance to the coaching staff in the development and

implementation of conditioning programs.

  1. Maintain proper credentials as a Weight Assessor for the State of

WV.

  1. Supervise the Athletic Training Room (ATR) and inspect the playing

facilities along with the coaching staff.

  1. Select and maintain athletic training equipment and supplies.
  1. Assist in maintenance of records of Athletic Physicals and Medical

Permission to Treat forms for all participating athletes.

  1. Obtain current athlete emergency information from athletic office,

or the school student medical records.

  1. Attend clinics and symposiums as source of continuing education.

Clinical Setting (Therapy)

  1. Perform evaluations and special tests for sports injury screenings

and ARC baseline evaluations.

  1. Perform ergonomic and functional assessments.
  1. Evaluate and administer gait training.
  1. Instructing home exercise programs as prescribed by OT, PT and/or

Physician.

  1. Educate patients on their respective diagnosis, prognosis and

treatment plans.

  1. Answering any questions patients may have.
  1. Develop and implement treatment plans for ARC Program participants

and training programs for Sports Performance Program.

  1. Perform therapeutic exercise as directed by OT, PT, or physician.
  1. DME/brace fitting and splint making.
  1. Maintain records pertaining to client/patient care in a professional

manner in compliance with HIPPA regulations.

  1. Assist in clerical duties including (but not limited to):
  2. Scheduling assistance, medical record organization and filing,

inventory, etc.

  1. Perform all other duties assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine

and Rehab. Services and by the Manager of Sports Medicine.

  1. Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and

Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING

Must have completed and received a Bachelors/Master of Science degree in

Athletic Training from a CAATE accredited institution and hold a current

certification from the BOC. Must be registered to participate as an

Athletic Trainer in the State of WV. Must maintain first-aid and CPR

certifications.

WORK EXPERIENCE

None required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Must demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with and understand patients of all ages, visitors, and other hospital personnel. Must have basic knowledge of aseptic techniques. Must be able to exercise sound clinical judgement.
