Position Type: Part Time

Position Summary
Boone Memorial Health is seeking a Centralized Monitor Technician to support continuous cardiac telemetry and physiologic monitoring for patients in our Inpatient Nursing Unit and Emergency Department.
This position operates from a centralized monitoring station and plays a vital role in patient safety by identifying and communicating cardiac rhythm changes and alarm events. The Monitor Technician collaborates closely with nursing and medical staff to support early detection of clinical deterioration and ensure compliance with regulatory standards in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) setting.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Monitoring & Safety
- Continuously monitor cardiac telemetry and physiologic monitoring systems across multiple units
- Accurately interpret cardiac rhythms including normal sinus rhythm, atrial fibrillation, heart blocks, ventricular arrhythmias, and pacemaker rhythms
- Identify and immediately communicate significant rhythm changes, alarm events, or equipment concerns
- Prioritize alarms based on acuity and maintain situational awareness
- Assist with troubleshooting telemetry leads, packs, and signal issues
Communication & Documentation
- Promptly report abnormal findings to nursing staff and providers per protocol
- Document rhythm interpretations and notifications in the EMR or telemetry log
- Participate in shift hand-off communication
- Follow established escalation pathways for urgent conditions
- Print, label, and file rhythm strips per policy
Equipment & Compliance
- Initiate, discontinue, and troubleshoot telemetry monitoring systems
- Ensure proper equipment tracking and functionality
- Adhere to hospital policies, infection prevention standards, HIPAA regulations, CMS Conditions of Participation (CoPs), Joint Commission standards, and WV state regulations
- Participate in quality improvement activities and regulatory readiness efforts

Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of a Telemetry Monitor Technician or cardiac rhythm interpretation course within 6 months of hire
- Previous cardiac monitoring experience preferred
- Experience in critical care, emergency services, or inpatient units preferred
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association) required at hire
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology
- Ability to accurately interpret telemetry strips
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to remain focused for extended periods
- Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to navigate electronic health records
- Ability to manage multiple alarms and monitored patients simultaneously
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while maintaining visual monitoring
- Visual acuity to interpret monitor waveforms
- Ability to hear alarms and communicate clearly
- Manual dexterity for computer and equipment use
Schedule
This position requires shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage to support 24/7 hospital operations.
